Fair enough. I was basing off Cap Friendly, which said the window opens after the settlement of the final arbitration case. Logically to me, a case means going through the full process, not just filing. But it seems the other links clarify.

Probably a bridge for $3M or less (likely less), or a longer term deal in the low to mid 4s. A 7 year number for Hanifin at this stage would probably be in the $4.35 - $4.5M range. But I doubt very much that he would want to sign that. So probably a bridge.
I think the deal is destined to be a bridge contract but I prefer they go max term as I feel that deal would be an absolute steal. I look at Trouba and the Jets likely could have signed him long term in the $5’s but have him the 2 year bridge and now rumor is he wants $8M. I would overpay on the Hanifin deal today so it keeps cap flexibility down the road.

Except Trouba at 8M is silly.

I find it weird that people are already giving up on Hathaway. He will be a much better NHLer than Klimchuk imo. A big physical player that has some ability with the puck. His AHL numbers are as good if not better than Foo and Klimchuk. Seems perfect for the 12th/13th spot on the roster. With Ferland gone he will lead the team in hits next season if he plays 60+ games.

We need to stop comparing players with longer stints in the AHL to younger guys that have just started in the AHL.

They really aren't comparable.

Hathaway turns 27 less than 2 months into the season so he is significantly older than the prospects you compare him to. IMO Brouwer and Lazar seem poised for the 13/14 spot

Klimchuk had 3 full seasons in the AHL with only one NHL game. I wouldn't call that just starting out. Hathaway only had one full season in the AHL before he started to get opportunities in the NHL.

Hathaway is easy waiver fodder. His cap hit will be low enough it won't affect the NHL team if buried in the AHL.

Overt he past few days I've seen Foo compared to Klimchuk and Hathaway. Really its the comparisons of the two more established (for lack of a better word) players to Foo that I take a bit of issue with.

Sorry to have gone off topic.

One turned 23 in March
One turns 27 in November

Brouwer is likely to be bought out imo. Lazar will be battling with Hathaway for a spot in the line-up. I would prefer Hathaway because of his physical presence.

If they want to keep Jankowski as a center next season I wouldn't mine seeing a Hathaway - Jankowski - Czarnik 4th line.

Getting Lindholm locked up long term and under 5m per season is amazing. This trade keeps getting better and better as the days go on.

pretty surprised that Tre was able to sign him to 6 years under 5million... i thought for sure that he'd be 5.150-5.25 for a 6 year deal.... and no NMC clause to boot?!

heck of a signing.

I agree with what you're saying in regards to needing results now, but want to note that he's built a really nice young core and locked them up long term (acknowledging that some of the core were from pre-Treliving days).

That's far different than selling away the future for proven but post-apex vets, such as we've seen with this team in the past.

Treliving on 960 says they plan to have Lindholm to start on the wing at camp, but will leave where he ends up to the coaches.

Here's Lindholm's interview on the Fan960: https://www.sportsnet.ca/960/pat-ste...lly-good-team/

The one thing that I liked that he said at the end of the interview is that he definitely sees himself scoring more goals. That is his focus for improvement in the coming years and he wants to be a consistent 20 goal scorer.
