I was never a huge fan but there's something to be said for winning when you are supposed to. Not all stacked teams win championships so he does deserve some credit for what he's accomplished in the NHL and Olympics. It seems like his success went to his head especially when he went to Toronto. Time will tell if he has changed or if he's still the dick he was prior to being outed.

He had success in Anaheim and Detroit and led Canada to a Golf medal. He had 173 wins over 4 and half seasons with Toronto. I don't like the guy but he is a damn good coach. I mean Scotty Bowman coached stacked teams too, was he overrated as well?

I was more impressed with what he did with Anaheim than what he did with Detroit. Mind you, that SC run Gigučre was in God mode for the first three rounds and then he turned into pumpkin in the SC Final the year.

Even Gaudreaus dad mentioned Johnny always plays better with hard nosed coaches, and if you look at his stats that tracks.

This will be good for Gaudreau, even if he doesn’t like it. It’ll be interesting to see though if Babs changes his approach.

I said it in the Trade thread, but I think Babs will have to learn to coach a more kinder, gentler style if wants to stay in the league. The media will be waiting for him to slip up again.

Probably in the minority but I think this will be good for Columbus.

Well...in fairness, they were essentially the worst team in the League.

Its going to be hard for this to backfire too much and I'm guessing Babcock has lowered his otherwise historically high salary demands.

Well that and I also believe in redemption stories. He might have been an ####### and we'll see if he still is but behind that is a good coach. You're right though, Brad Larssen was awful and not much elsewhere to go but up where they were.

I agree. I think this would be a good opportunity for the Flames if they can make this trade. Picking up a young center now would fit into a retool, rebuild. Chances are he can play right away. A young guy like that might click with Huberdeau. I think the important thing is getting a coach that will encourage his progression.

He also coached the Leafs to dead last in the NHL one year

Yes, because they tanked huge. He coached the Leafs to a #1 pick in one year, was there less than five, and still racked up over 170 wins. You can argue he is a garbage person but I don't know how anyone can argue against his coaching success.

I just think he might be over-rated

he won with stacked rosters (yeah I get it, who wins with #### rosters)

but IDK, I think a really good coach could keep even a bad team out of the basement.

There is no way Bowman belongs in this conversation.

I forget why we cancelled Babcock, so it couldn't have been that bad

I hope his first order of business is to have Gaudreau make a list of hardest working players on the team.

Not sure if you want serious answer saying he got cancelled but he's known as a terrible being.

He bullied players especially Franzen and made him play through concussions.

Mitch Marner list and sharing it with the team.

Apparently he got Commodore signed so he could bury him.

Reportedly he did the Marner list thing in Detroit too, but we don't know who the player was.

Even Chris Chelios said he hoped he got fired and it was absolutely unprompted.

Nobody ‘cancelled’ him. He was a A-Hole and got what he deserved.
