I know very little about soccer, but watching a few of these games - David is the best Canadian striker in a long time.

Haiti have beaten Costa Rica 2-1 to win Group B. It will be Mexico vs Costa Rica and Canada vs Haiti in the quarterfinals. That is a very winnable match for Canada IMO.

Have only been catching highlights but seems like Canada's playing reasonably well for a team with a patchwork back line.

Anybody seen Haiti play and have any idea what to expect?

Ordinarily I'd expect Canada to beat them easily but that result against CR was impressive.

Haiti are fast, and good on the break.

We are a better team, but Haiti are capable of winning.

A 19-year-old American is the current Golden Boot leader at the Gold Cup, but it’s Canada that has been celebrating his goals. Jonathan David has five goals and two assists in three group-stage games. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Haitian parents, and on Saturday, the Belgium-based attacker will represent his adopted country in a quarterfinal against Haiti in Houston. It’s a remarkable set of circumstances for the young striker who, in a short period of time, has become Canada’s next promising footballing export.

A little over a year ago, David was playing amateur club soccer for the Ottawa Internationals. He was already a Canada youth national international, and represented the country’s U-21 side that participated in the 2018 Toulon Tournament. David’s move to Belgium was already pending, and he didn’t play much in Toulon, finishing the tournament without a goal. For an outside observer, comparisons to Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, his friend and teammate of the same age, seemed far-fetched. However, those close to the Canadian camp knew what they had in David.

What a horrible week for Canadian soccer.

That’s an absolute choke job. I’d complain about how there were only three minutes added but they were never going to score no matter how many were added.

We desperately need some fullbacks so Davies can play on the wing. I like Godinho, he just had a horrific evening. Davies isn’t good enough defensively, he might get there and that might end up being his best position, but Canada took our most dangerous player and played him out of position all tournament

David and Cavallini look to be a great partnership.

So disappointing.
