My father is a white boomer in his late 60s. Like many people in that demographic, his Facebook page is full of right-wing memes. He's a fierce supporter of the Canadian oil industry. He hates -- HATES -- Justin Trudeau. He's not so far gone that he supports Trump, though. He thinks American Republicans are a special breed of crazy.

A few days ago, I sent him the details of Jason Kenney's Bill 1, copy/pasting text directly from the law, without any editorializing on my part. Except I didn't tell him it was from Alberta. I told him it was a Republican-sponsored bill from the state of Oklahoma in response to the on-going George Floyd protests. He was aghast at the flagrant infringement on civil rights. He said that if he lived in Oklahoma, he would be, and I quote verbatim, "first in line to protest it". I then told him it wasn't from Oklahoma, and it wasn't Trump-supporting Republicans who drafted this piece of legislation. It was conservatives right here in Canada who have such disdain for our Charter-guaranteed rights. I like to think the message got through to him.

Based on my quick search, the answer appears to be "we don't know" so someone who attended a protest yesterday, tested negative today, could still have become infected during the protest.

Probably better advice is those who were part of the rally and not following social distance requirements should self-isolate for the next 10 days and get tested near the end (or once symptoms show). But that would be pipedream to have happened with everyone.

Everything I've heard is for people to isolate and to seek out testing a few days afterwards. It's pretty inconclusive for sure.

Either way, if you know someone who attended the protests and they aren't isolating or seeking out testing, you need to call them out. Nobody needs this spiraling our situation out of control. If you could take the time out of your day to protest, you can certainly take the time to make sure you're not infected.

Alberta's UCP government is taking money away from victims to fund policing initiatives in the province, a move opponents of the proposed legislation changes have called unethical and a "ploy."

Justice Minister Doug Schweitzer proposed changes to the Victims of Crime Act and Fund that would allow the government to dip into money meant to support those affected by crime.

"We really feel that someone's peeked over the fence and saw it and thought 'well, I could use that,'" said Alf Rudd.

Journalism is already in its death throes, and eroding the FOI act is simply another way of keeping the people in dark concerning the mechanization of power and wealth. The net neutrality issue is one of the biggest concerns in recent history concerning the continuation of a free democratic state, but since journalism is dying and now freedom of information is being curtailed, there is no access to knowing the eventual playbook for consolidating power for the few.

I think it's great. I was able to grab a pack quickly and easily before going to visit an elderly family member. The fact that there are idiots dumping them is on the idiots dumping them, and the establishments and people doing it should be called out.

I think it’s smart to keep mask distribution away from health care resources. You are asking a lot of people to go to one location to get something. Making that location a non-essential resource seems reasonable.

If I want people to wear masks who are going to work outside of the home each day Tim Hortons seems like an obvious contact point for a lot of people.
