Or if you prefer the 90s version of the above:

The staccato riffs begin about 30 seconds into the song:

Surprised this hasn't been posted already, possibly the most iconic intro in rock

Dear Sir, how can you post a song from Pinkerton in the most awesome opener thread and it not be El Scorcho!

(gurgling) 4 thuds..the twangy guitar and the high-pitched El Scorcho AyeKaRaw!

Plus what I feel is the greatest first line in a song ever.

One of the rare occasions where someone did it better than Hendrix IMO.

I really like the beginning of this song just because of that weird sample of what sounds like a radio broadcaster telling his listeners to "just keep punching". Thirty years later and with the power of internet search engines at my fingertips, I still cannot determine whether the philosopher named Ken Morgenstern actually existed or not. Waybest Chicken does exist though. They are a poultry distributor based in Connecticut.

Here's one of my favorite intros ever. Starts with a slow and steady single piano note that feels ominous and then it quickly drops into some speed metal drums with insane scratchy base guitar. Gets me pumped.

I'm going to use the video of the opening credits of Tour of Duty, which was a great show. But Paint it Black has a great opening.

John Cougar - "I Need A Lover".

Has a long intro that is not always played on the radio.
