I was surprised and impressed that Sutter understood him.

One thing I thought was funny is how some people were treating it like Darryl hasn't coached in 20 years or something LOL

I assumed it's an ex-pat sports reporter working in North America? Didn't catch the name or outlet, unfortunately.

Yeah agreed. "How will he adjust to the new NHL?"

Uhhh...

He's won 2 Stanley Cups in the "new NHL." Most of the players he coached are still in the league.

This isn't like Keenan rising from the woodwork.

I also remember people saying the game had passed him by as a coach when he went to LA

Months later he had the cup. He made a pretty seamless transition then after a much longer time away from the bench

His name is Jim Conlan and he is from County Clare Ireland.
Back in Feb he had an interview with Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves go viral because of his accent. Edwards was listening to his accent and couldnt understand what he was saying and asks where Jim was from because he wanted to learn his accent

Yes, that's true. However, he probably should have done his research and realized that it's a false accusation. Because Kevin from CTV didn't do his research now he looks like an uninformed hack journalist.

The funny part was Sutter got thru the accent just fine - and proceeded to sneer at the question, which was something like “what are your short term priorities”. Typical Sutter answer “ we have a game against Edmonton to win”.

Welcome to Sutter world, Irish.

Also, he was special advisor to Dallas Eakins in Anaheim right before he took this job, so it’s not as though he has actually been out of coaching. Bob Murray, who I would say is a pretty solid GM, trusted him to teach Eakins.

If he can help Dallas Eakins become a NHL head coach again, Darryl definitely has what it takes to revive the Flames!

It makes more sense that Sutter was talking about Nordstrom considering the number of games he's played this year but the first name that popped in my mind when he mentioned Boston was Brett Ritchie, maybe because he also plays a simple Sutter brand of hockey.

Isn’t Nick Ritchie the Bruin?

Stephane Yelle was one of the best defensive forwards of the mid-late 90s and a 2x champ with Colorado.

He’s a Hall of Famer compared to Joakim Nordstrom.

Yeah, Yelle was far better than Nordstrom. Yelle was more or less Old NHL's Backlund. In the sense that they are both prototypical defensive centers of their respective eras.

Yes, nobody is saying Nordstrom is Yelle

It was me right here that brought up Yelle, and it was simply because Yelle was a great example to me of a role player.

Not an interchangeable bottom 6 warm body, but a guy who had a job, knew it, owned it and did it very well

The old coach (I forget his name) used blender plus hope as a strategy and there were a lot of players who didn’t know what line they were going to be on, where they would be slotted and what their job was. Just another way to shoot your self in the foot as a coach

-Had an advising role in the league ever since

"What a fossil"
-Last two Oilers coaches - 66 & 59. Darryl - 62
