Has anyone been to the new board game cafe "Pips" in Marda Loop? Any thoughts? I think a few friends and I are headed there tomorrow night.
Yeah it's great there, make sure you get reservation though it fills up quickly and the turn over is really slow because everyone's gaming and its small.

Damn, no reservations Friday nights. So we are going to have a tough time getting in there? That humps.
If by chance we do get in, anyone have recommendations for games we should try? Going to be two couples. We usually me up once a month or so and play Catan or Ticket to Ride - looking for something new!

They have a "Game master" there if you want to try something new. For newer players, games that they have I'd recommend are "Escape" though you need someone to have a phone to play the soundtrack(it's important), "Winners Circle", "King of Tokyo" and "Cleopatra"

FYI, my friend opened up a board game cafe in the Beltline area. It's called Boxcar and is located near Hotel Arts (I think 1st street and 12th ave sw). I believe they just opened last week. The pricing model is similar to Pips.

Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2nd Edition announced a new app called Road To Legend (yes the same name as the Descent 1.0 expansion) that will feature Co-Op content including a full campaign. It is due out in a few weeks apparently.
Looks to be pretty cool and it is generating a lot of buzz for a game that was arguably on the decline. I don't own Descent but have done a fair amount of research on it and I was planning to pick it up after my BG group finishes up our current Star Wars: IA campaign. This added fuel to the fire for sure. I do enjoy playing versus other players, but this app will essentially double the replay value of the core game components... for a small fee of course ($9.95 USD per campaign).
Edit: I should clarify this isn't a way for you to play Descent on your Ipad, its a way for them to churn out co-op quests and campaigns using existing pieces from the already released core+expansions. Essentially automating or providing AI for the Overlord player through the app. But you still require all of the regular components to play and will play it on a table top.

I have all the Descents and this is exciting news. I preferred the first Descent, but set up time was awful, Descent 2 was better for that but I felt it was missing all the personality of the first one.

Been playing Pandemic Legacy over the past few months with the same group of friends. It is awesome. Probably one of the coolest gaming experiences I've ever had. But you have to commit!

I never liked the original Pandemic, it was too easy for one player to tell everybody what to do. Does Legacy remedy that in any way?
