What is the difference between a screw pile and a technopile(other than $220)?

Screw piles are ~30$ a piece and if you can auger for a piling without hitting rocks you can easily put in screw piles. I put ten in the ground with a friend in a little over an hour. Plus they are adjustable after the fact in case your soil moves a bit. We've had a few dry years and I have to raise my deck close to an inch.

If you insist on concrete piles and you have the room for a bobcat, just get one to come over and drill your holes, it will take him a few minutes and save your back. I had a fence line done once and it cost me a couple hundred and was done in an hour.
Treycal mentioned in this thread they were $200+. I'd be open to screw piles if they are that cheap. No room for a bobcat though.

We didn't install them. We had TechnoPost come in and do it. They used a mini bobcat for the the install (as long as you have an 36" wide gate) You might be able to buy them yourself and install them using an auger for cheaper.

Can you manually screw them in by attaching a 4x4 to the top and spin them? Or do you need power?

Anyone have any experience doing them by hand? This really seems like the best option that I didn't even know about.

Do they meet Calgary codes?

Has anyone had a hiding screen door installed? what are your thoughts on them vs standard storm door? My wife would like one but I feel like the storm door does better in our climate.

Anybody have an idea on what I should do about water coming in through the foundation? I’m thinking about pulling the carpet back(not worried about the old crappy carpet) and seeing if there is a crack we can fill in. We will also get a fan to dry out the the area. Drywall doesn’t seem to be wet so that why I think it’s coming up.

To answer your question, they are slick AF. I don't have one but my FIL does.

Comparing it to a storm door isn't really valid. 2 entirely different setups. Most new homes are bothering with storm doors so not sure they are much of a thing these days.

If your main door is solid enough, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to install the hidden screen door. They are fantastic. Can't comment on their longevity though, he's only had his for maybe 2 seasons now.

Consider whether you have pets or problem animals that would simply push their way underneath. I have to put a 2' high piece of plywood in front of mine to contain the cat, which I then have to move and replace every time my dog wants to go in or out, or when BBQing.

So one of the concrete slabs that are part of the window ledge of one of the windows on the back of our house fell off.

Window still looks similar to this:

How would I repair this?

Simply get some quick dry concrete and put it back?

You need mortar, not concrete.

Im building a Pergola on our back deck. Im bound a determined not to dig holes by hand because I hate digging holes.

Running the numbers of auger rental vs sonotubes vs 16ft 6x6 posts (2 ft deck, 8 ft pergola, 4ft underground) I just decided to say screw it and go for the commercial pylex at 75 bucks a pop. They provide more lateral stability and are adjustable as well. We want to hang a swinging bench from the pergola so we needed a bit more structural considerations.

The piles just arrived yesterday so Im interested to see how it goes.

I put ten into heavy clay and they went in that easy. Hardest part is getting them started straight. Obviously rocks would cause problems but we got all ours in.

I have one and I love it. It makes the whole setup nice and clean. This is the company I went with. I believe they are usually at the exhibition side of the Stampede and give deals, so it'd be a good time to get it.

The only downside is that it is meant to release and retract when pressure is put on it. So if you have a young child or a dog that presses against it, it may release and snap closed. The retraction mechanism is quite robust/fast, so it might cause an owie.

One of my rentals the valence clips on many of the blinds are starting to be brittle and snap. They're over 10 years old, the wood blinds and valences themselves are still fine.

I'm not even sure I'll be able to find who did them for us from way back then. Can anyone recommend someone who does window coverings that could go in with new clips and get them all fixed up, preferably someone who would charge a reasonable price?
