Calgary Flames All Time Roster - #14 Forward
So some details ...
1. Calgary players only
2. I'll look at games played, production and PPG to list options.
3. My cut off won't effect options as I'll go deeper than required
4. I'll label them by rank (3rd line LW) but don't select the player that matches that role the best, pick the best player.
Day to Day
We elect a position, say 2nd line RW, remove that name and do the 3rd line RW the next day.
I'll post a summary as we go along.
Calgary Flames All Time Roster
Gary Roberts - Joe Nieuwendyk - Jarome Iginla
Johnny Gaudreau - Doug Gilmour - Theo Fleury
Matthew Tkachuk - Sean Monahan - Lanny McDonald
Alex Tanguay - Joel Otto - Joe Mullen
Hakan Loob - 14th Fwd
D1 - D2
D3 - D4
D5 - D6
D7
Miikka Kiprusoff
Mike Vernon

14th forward to me should come down to locker room presence (Conroy) but in terms of skills I have a few guys I debated over, but had to go with Cammalleri. Always a favorite of mine, and the only guy whose skill was enough of a threat to give Iginla some room offensively

Hard to believe two of the greatest raw talents to ever play the game for any team are still on this list, albeit both could be really frustrating. Gave Nilsson the edge over Makarov though if you just look at their time with the Flames.

I gave the edge to Makarov over Nilsson but both are solid options.

Man, as someone born in the late 80s, I am just fascinated by Kent Nilsson and I wish I could have seen him play. Our maybe not, sounds like he would have driven me crazy. I know he's been discussed to death throughout this whole thing but I'm baffled that he's still on the board. The numbers are just staggering. He'll likely remain the Flames points-per-game leader forever.

Massive talent! If he had Doug Risebrough’s heart, he would have been in the Gretzky realm.
Yes, he would have driven you crazy.

Sandy McCarthy would be a consideration of mine if there was a designated roster position for the agitator/enforcer role.

We ended up with neither of the team's top two points per game forwards in the top 13.
#2 won't make the team at all.

I wish everyone could have seen him play. He was that good and as timbit says and others have said before, he was in the Gretzky level of talent. He just didnt have that "do anything to win" or "hate to lose enough" gene in him. Some nights you literally had no idea he was on the ice....though its exaggerated greatly how often that happened.
He did things with the puck, and in really tight areas, that had never ever seen before. His ability to see guys where they were going to be before that guy even knew it was...uncanny. He was a good goal scorer but his playmaking was as good as it gets, and i mean that historically.
He was, by far, the most gifted player that way this club has ever had and likely ever will.
The fact he is behind Monahan is an abomination, but thats the price of playing in an era where the vast majority of those voting never saw him live.
He also suffered one of the most gruesome injuries I have ever seen.

Great youtube video on Nilsson and his skill (quality is iffy)
https://youtu.be/CQe1anhVLd8
Includes that infamous cross bar from center ice clip, and a good summary from some great players about what Tranny is talking about.
I loved his oddities too ... only wanted his skates sharpened something like once a month ... didn't tie his skates beyond the ankle, left the top three eye holes empty.
