Lottery tickets question
Can anyone tell me if you have to fill out the whole section of personal info for 649 / lotto max for tickets that win free ticket or a couple of bucks?

I usually don't sign anything. It's a good idea to sign it as soon as you buy it just in case you win something big (I should do it more often), but if I don't sign anything and win 2 bucks I just hand it in and get my money.

Sometimes they will ask you to write your name... and then they rip it up I think? So it’s not a hard fast rule for the small winnings like $2 or free play.

The cashier will make you sign the winning ticket to claim whatever prize it is. But I usually just scribble some nonsense on there. I never out my real signature on it.

They want your name on the ticket because there was a scandal where a grocery store disconnected the speaker. So when the ticket was verified as a winning ticket the clerk just had to keep a straight face and say I'm sorry you did not win and then cash it in.

Not everybody makes you do it. I've handed in winning tickets in a lot of different cities and it's been very rare for me to see someone force me to sign it before I get the prize. I should just get in the habit of signing every ticket after I buy it.

That seems risky for them since you can look up winning numbers online, no?
I wonder how often people check online.

actually, there's an app, that scans the barcode. you know if it wins or not.
that's why I have about 20 tickets I have to go cash in, for free tickets and the odd $10 here and there. I don't want to fill them all in. They have been laying around for months, One is about to expire tomorrow. I threw out about $90 worth in small prizes + 15 or so free plays in about 20 tickets I had that are expired, and more or less forgotten about.

Yah I use the app so I know what I have won when I take it into the shop already.

Normally I just sign the back and had it to the clerk. Checked one a couple months back and I had won a little over 6 grand!! I filled it out properly and called the 800 number to confirm the claim process.

6 grand? Awesome! My biggest score so far is 1k, got 3 out of 4 extra numbers, missed the 4th by just a couple numbers. Almost had 500k

I’ve always been asked to sign any ticket I’ve cashed or had checked.

Yeah, I took a bunch to a Shell station and the guy made me sign them, that wasn’t so bad, I was wondering about writing down your name, address etc. On the back.

A man in Edmonton waited almost a year to claim his $60 M jackpot, coming close to the deadline. Why would you wait so long?
I had a co-worker - her Dad won $1 M and didn't tell his family. He then left his wife, and tried to keep the win secret as long as possible so he would not have to split it. He lost half when wife found out.

I think I would wait a few months to get my life in order to be ready to get that much money. An investment plan before everyone you know has an idea on how you should invest. Decide who you will gift money to.
That or I would by 49 million in 1 yr bonds and give myself a million for the first year. I don’t think you want all that money all at once. The lottery winners going bankrupt is way to common.

While I'd wait to access the cash, I wouldn't want to run the risk of getting hit by a bus first. That ticket would get cashed on day one, and then put in a short term locked account until I came up with a game plan.
Not a chance would I come close to the deadline date.
