Ah, I can see them making the claims but they would all fall to invalid. Unless there was some agreement the artist had made to the site that turned over ownership, the ownership belongs to the original artist.
Even the revisions others have made would have no real ownership as they are tweaking the IP of someone else.
In the end it would be pretty simple to straighten out the legal issues. Some people would come forward with claims, sure, but I'm sure people make claims to every design any company has come out with.
If anything, IMO, owners might be against the idea of admitting that a fan designed something better than their design team.
