I hope him and Neal annoy Tippett about needing more minutes as their excuse for poor play all year.

Quote:
“The last five years I had the reputation of playing well in the playoffs,” Brassard told the paper. “But my responsibilities in Ottawa and New York were playing in the top-six and playing 18-20 minutes a night. I’m someone who likes to play with emotion. I think the last five years I proved that. In Pittsburgh, I had a hard time getting involved in games and being myself.

“Their expectation was for me to be a 50- or 60-point guy. What third-line centre has 50-60 points? You’re limited somewhere — ice time or whatever.

“I think we both kind of agreed it wasn’t a good fit.”

What’s hilarious to me is he basically joined a team that will give him the same issue he was complaining about being in with Pittsburgh:

McDavid Crosby
Hopkins Malkin
Brassard Brassard

Only this time he’s joining an annual tire fire instead of a powerhouse... maybe they don’t expect 50-60 points out of him?? Hopefully he doesn’t go full Reider hahahahahaha! My god they (Oilers) are sad.

Cue the ‘Brassard thinks he can be a 50-60 point player who’s a playoff beast’ articles from the Staples of the oilers hockey world lol

I could see him finding room on the 2nd line. It will give them a legit reason to keep draisaitl with mcjesus. N-Hopkins and neal on the wings.. it's gross, but that's about as good as they can hope for. They have Brodziak for the 3rd, and a bunch of scrubs after that.

I hope he get 80 points and then signs an extension with them.

The only way this makes sense for the Oilers is if they trade him away at the trade deadline after inflating his value all year.

I agree. The oilers have done nothing this off season to improve long term. Maybe getting rid of Lucic, but buying out Sekera to sign a bunch of slop to 1 year deals does nothing to help this team long term.

I also can't see any of these guys bringing a good return, unless they play way better than I expect. If that happens the Oilers will probably be in the hunt for the playoffs and won't be sellers down the stretch.

Great signing! He's going to do wonders for the Oilers' front office. They've been looking for that perfect scapegoat signing of the year and here it is!

Cue the "we would have made the playoffs if only Brassard had scored more goals" in about 7-8 months. Depending on how well he plays his role, it may even come sooner!

You have to admit, it does have E=NG meme potential. I'd defer to Textcritic for an official okie-dokie.

NOCSTONO kinda rolls off the tongue though.

Well....his bio says he can also play wing so....McDavid....at some point.

He was an actual NHL player at one point so that puts him above a huge chunk of their current roster.
