Anybody remember the Calgary band Warning by Sea? I liked them and have some of their songs. Four to be exact...i don't know if they released any others, but I love what I have. Is there a CJSW library of music? Check them out if you have a chance.
Gordon Lightfoot- The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (technically Lake Superior isn't the sea, but it's about a freakin' ship wreck!)
Shearwater - On The Death of the Waters
What I like about these two songs in the context of your OP is that you could take out the song titles and lyrics and you would still know they are about the sea. It's in the music.

Wrote a note, said "Be back in a minute"
Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
Don't think anybody's gonna miss me anyway
Mind on a permanent vacation
