As an owner of a small business that runs group fitness out of 4 locations across calgary and Edmonton, we have had 35k+ visits in our facilities since June, and outside of an incident in July in which we had two staff members test positive (at which time there was no further transmission) we have had zero cases. My colleagues in the industry share the same experience.

If this were a coordinated lockdown of everything, Iíd be okay with it. But it seems like they are making an example out of one specific industry to ďwake up AlbertanísĒ and itís just simply not going to do anything. Our track record has since opening has shown we are not part of the problem.
So no rec sports? Or just tighter restrictions?

I know some of these are closed anyways and some are minor but it does add up when you have 10s of 1000s of people doing it. Some of that money is spent elsewhere so maybe it ends up being zero sum to the economy as a whole but the problem is that money is going to Amazon and other massive online retailers. And since amazon pays no taxes and only employs min wage slaves, it doesn't actually mitigate the damage done to our economy by not shopping in stores. Literally the only benefit to using giant online retailers is the GST. Every other penny spent probably does a net negative to our economy.
The other thing with Amazon is some purchases don't even have PST or GST charged. Right now would be a good time for the government to do something about that.

This is likely due to the small supplier exemption, which applies to all businesses under a $30k threshold, not just Amazon ones.

In other cases the seller pays the tax instead of the consumer, which is probably rare.

I hope they don't lump ski hills in with "sports", that would be heartbreaking.

But on the plus side it's kind of exciting to have an update with some substance to it for the first time in months...

Part of me feels like the government will be intentionally ambiguous on certain topics.

Everything I have read indicates measures will likely include:

- Limits to worship, funerals etc.
- Further private gathering limits (see BC).
- Restrictions on fitness classes (yoga, spin etc).
- reduced operating hours for bars/restaurants (see BC)

Having watched several updates recently, the UCP's appetite for complete closure of business, sport and recreation is almost nill, and unless I've missed something, think this is being exaggerated by some. I would be beyond shocked if they don't at least try the above for a week or two before going full-on.

Doesn’t sound like any additional measures for workspaces, from what I’m seeing discussed.

FYP.

I know very few people that are looking for a complete shutdown. I find those opinions seem to be disproportionally represented in this thread.

And before my friends get classified as being "uneducated with basic math skills that can't comprehend the complexity of the situation" it's important to point out this is a group of largely university educated individuals who wear masks, adhere to the recommendations and have reduced social gatherings but understand the benefits of school and fitness to their mental well being.

Currently the biggest issues I see with sports is people ignoring rules.

For Example: 1 spectator per player in rinks. Yet every game I see 3-4 family member trucking. Hell ban spectators all together (which I get is easy for me to say with Bantam and Midget players, harder with Novice/Tim bit players) or track it at the door
