Default North Korea Megathread: Accuses US of declaring war

Okay, I want off this ride now. This game of dick swinging is starting to get frighting. Who would have though that Twitter would be the means to declare war.

Quote:
North Korea's foreign minister has accused US President Donald Trump of declaring war on his country and said Pyongyang had the right to shoot down US bombers.
Ri Yong-ho said this could apply even if the warplanes were not in North Korea's airspace.
In response, the Pentagon warned Pyongyang to stop provocations.
A spokesman for the head of the UN said fiery talk could lead to fatal misunderstandings.
Mr Ri's comments were a response to Mr Trump's tweet that the North Korean leadership would not "be around much longer" if they continued their rhetoric.
"The whole world should clearly remember it was the US who first declared war on our country," Mr Ri told reporters as he was leaving New York, where he had addressed the UN General Assembly on Saturday.

A number of people made somewhat sarcastic comments to this effect back in November about Trump using Twitter to start a war. Hard to believe it could actually be true!

The North Koreans have used very violent language in recent years to describe self-professed American chicanery.

I wouldn't get too hyped up about this, cool heads are likely prevailing behind the scenes and in the larger administration circles of both countries.

Hopefully, the International Yelling Magnate will cool down once someone tells him his Twitter rants are causing havoc in the stock market.

Didn't he once call Rocket-Man a 'smart cookie" and said he might invite him to the WH?

How is the US still allowing Trump to tweet this garbage from his personal account? He's literally going to end the world at this rate.

It's all words and show from North Korea. I can't believe they are stupid enough to think they have anything to gain from actually attacking the US. They'd get massacred.

There was an expert quoted in The Guardian today who makes some sense of it all.

Quote:
Vipin Narang, an expert on the Korean peninsula showdown at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said that the Pyongyang regime “really hates the B-1B flights. They’re clearly making the regime nervous about a surprise attack. This is how war by miscalculation starts.”

“Yesterday’s flight went further north than any this century, though still in international airspace east of DPRK,” Narang said. “But Kim seems to be worried, and reasonably so, that such a flight is exactly how a surprise decapitation or counterforce strike could start. So what we intend as a ‘show of strength’ could easily be mistaken as a prelude to a surprise attack, forcing Kim to go preemptively.”

He said: “It is unclear to me what the more aggressive shows of strength achieve – we can deter DPRK and reassure our allies in a multitude of other ways that are less risky and don’t throw poison ivy all over Kim’s itchy finger trigger.”

Your failing is that you're assuming that that nut job can actually think logically.

It's not really just words and show from NK. I mean, they've shot rockets over Americas largest ally in the pacific... If that isn't straight up provocation than I don't know what the hell NK is whining about bombing runs for.

Would it be over before dinner?

Doesn't north Korea have one of the 5 biggest armies in the world?

And do they not have one of the top 5 best equipped armies as well?

And do they not also have a government who has spent 30 years scenario planning this exact scenario?

I think that if it starts, this one will be awful and linger for an extended timeframe

Nope. They have one of the largest number of soldiers but they are not strong.

They have a poop tonne of artery that can hit Seoul. I reckon if it kicked off the civilian causalities would be heavy.

I don't see North Korea concerning themselves with where rounds land as long as rounds are landing.

If you're going to attack the North you need to be willing to sacrifice Seoul in the opening day of the war. As much as North Korea talks about Nuclear deterrent they have a pretty good conventional to WMD deterrent already in place.

I seem to remember Iraqs republican guard was supposed to be a formidable opponent as well but as soon as the bombs started dropping they ran as fast as possible, I suspect a couple of B-2 stealth bombing runs over their artillery batteries would have the same effect.

I don’t profess to know what NK is capable of and I really prefer not to find out.

Yeah America attacking NK is pretty much waving goodbye to millions of lives in SK that have had rockets trained on them since birth. Even the most surgical stealth strike in the history of man would not prevent Seoul and the surrounding area from becoming a smoking crater in the process.

We're talking a city with a 25 million strong metro pop here, 10 million in the city proper.
