The Avalanche over his last three years there is not a fair benchmark for Iginla. But as others have said his $$$ demands have something to do with the whole equation.

Don't put too much stock in the preseason but a strong start to the season is essential. I said this before and I believe it now even more... bringing Iggy in would get the team and the fans jumping to start the season. Could use it as a momentum boost after the underwhelming preseason.

Well I have not been overly impressed with anyone on the right side. Brouwer should be a 4th liner. Frolik and Ferland can move around as needed. But Jarome would fit the 3rd line so well.

Johnny Monny Ferland
Tkachuk Backlund Frolik
Versteeg Bennett Iginla
Lazar Janko Brouwer
Hathaway Stajan

Brodie Hamonic
Gio Dougie
Kulak Stone
Bartkowski

Smith
Lack

That would be my opening day roster if it was up to me.

I'd sub-out Kulak for Ramus and Lack for Gillies. But otherwise, this looks perfect to me!

Stajan is done as an NHLer. It's painful to watch because I really like him as a person but he just doesn't have it anymore. Brouwer is just BAD. Not only is he playing bad he doesn't show any emotion out there. Country club attitude.

$7.6 million tied up between the two in salary space this year

So does Stone or Andersen play their wrong side?

Gillies after 1 preseason should be the permanent backup?

I am sure we could easily waive Lack and bring him back if the org doesn't feel Gillies is getting enough playing time?

As depressing as it sound, Lack has the best SV% of all the goalies in Flames Preseason. Be afraid, be very afraid!

I think he has a very short list of teams he will play for, and if they don't come to him with a deal he won't play. He certainly doesn't need the money. I would guess it's a combination of comfort and competitive team that he would sign with.

Iggy has been a slow starter his entire career...bringing him in after no training camp is gonna get the team off to a fast start?

Bringing him in isn't about what his start is like. He wouldn't be expected to be a main offensive player. He would be a lead by example type of player who boosts morale and competitive nature. Making the fans feel nostalgic as well. But you don't even consider signing Jarome if you are concerned about his offensive start at the age of 40.

I watch sports partly for the drama and the stories. Signing Iggy would certainly be a dramatic story.

I just can't see it happening anymore

You want dramatics? Flames should sign both Iginla and Jagr.

we don't need to make the flames organization a retirement home. I don't even like Jagrs antics anymore. He doesn't seem like a guy willing to step in and give it his all for the team. Iggy still seems to have that fire.

Iginla's fifteen years older and barely outscored Ferland last year. I bet it doesn't happen again.

Ferland is a cold streak away to stepping back to reality as a 4th line winger. I just hate that we have a new Wideman here in Brower
