You can also buy roasted chicken from Costco / Superstore / Co-op / etc and have a better experience than eating at a Swiss Chalet.

Completely off topic, but nostalgic... I was working the other day, when i heard the Buckshot theme - went out on my deck and there is an ice cream truck blasting the ole Buckshot song - it was glorious

Totally random but does anyone remember Marvelous Mmmuffins? They used to be in all the malls; I don't think I actually ate their much (being a kid) but I distinctly remember their stores...

Good article here: https://www.thestar.com/life/food_wi...0s-muffin.html

I think Cookies by George is another "niche" food store (discussed earlier in this thread I believe); I also remember when Cinnabon first opened -- that place seemed super busy for the longest time...

I remember those.

I also remember being disgusted when going to the mall with my mom and she wanted to eat at Grandma Lee's, and I wanted to go anywhere that wasn't Grandma Lee's.

Ah, thinking of Lee's... that got me thinking about Dixie Lee chicken. We had one in Kelowna. I always was bummed when we got that instead of KFC.

My uncle ran a bunch of them. I always loved going to visit, as they'd have boxes of these things for us. The cheese ones and chocolate chip ones were my favourites.

Cheese muffins? That doesn't sound good at all.

I loved Cookie Corral at Sunridge mall, the one with the large cookies on a stick.

They had a butterscotch muffin that I remember as being delicious.

Nothing beats a mmmuffin with some Swiss Chalet sauce on top.

Haha... I almost forgot about those but my grandmother worked at the Marlborough Mall one for years. I was in the midst of my too cool teenage years and tried to slink past there without her catching me. Grandma had some sharp eyes in those days!

The mmmmuffins were okay. Not better than Costco muffins though.

Blasphemy! Not saying Costco muffins are bad, but they don't have the same "top-to-stump" ratio:

versus

Agreed, the top of mmmmmuffins were the best. They always had slightly overcooked crispy brown edges. I love the chocolate chip ones as a kid.

I worked at St. Huberts BBQ chicken on Macleod Trail in the mid-80s. They still exist in Quebec. I thought their sauce was way better than Swiss Chalet.

^Yeah my family and I went to St. Hubert's when we were in Monteral a couple years ago and it was really good.
I always found the seemingly "handshake agreement" between St. Hubert's and Swiss Chalet to be interesting. They used to compete in many markets and then Swiss pulled out of Quebec and St. Hubert's pulled out of the rest of the country.
I read now though that they are owned by the same people - didn't know that.
I would say that Swiss Chalet is amongst the most affordable places for families to eat. So it has its place.
