The 2nd round picks we are talking about came from prudent managerial decisions like moving roster players and prospects for picks.
Like moving Colin Miller for a 2nd and a 5th.
Sure would've been nice if Calgary had moved a defender for picks last offseason and could now be in the market for a defender with remaining term.
Oh well.

But then the Flames wouldn't have had Oscar Fantenberg for the 3rd pairing in the playoffs and they would have had to play Valimaki. Who would want that?!

You can do that when you are given 13 NHL defencemen before you ever play and NHL game. Surely you understand he isn't trading any players that they developed but "free" players. If you can't realize that then it is just a shot at every GM in the NHL. Let's see how many of these movements happen in the next 3 years with Vegas.

Kind of interesting to see the Kings selling into the division. I like the returns they have fetched in the past few trades.

it's almost like the most important factor should be the return

Plus they got great deals because of the rules. The Isles gave Vegas a first, second and a Dman. TB gave them a D they didn't want plus Gusev, a 2nd and 4th. And Columbus gave them Karlsson, a first and a second. Minnie gave them Haula and a 3rd. The Ducks had to trade them Theodore and still lost Stoner.

Flash, we all know you aren't happy with the job Treliving has done here. You don't need to passive-aggressively allude to it in every post.

Any GM will trade in division. It is only when you have two comparable offers do you take the out of division offer instead of the in division one.

picks:
LA Kings @LAKings
The LA Kings acquired two second-round picks in exchange for defenseman Alec Martinez today.
The two picks include Vegas’ in the 2020 #NHLDraft and St. Louis’s selection in the 2021 Draft that was previously acquired by the Golden Knights.

It may be short sighted, but it's how we do things.
|
I think part of the issue this year is just the situation with the timing of the injuries.
I do feel like one of Brodie or Hamonic would have been moved under normal circumstances.
But with Hamonic injured he's unmovable, and Gio is still out for a bit too. Would be nice to try to get a couple seconds, or a first for Brodie or Hamonic, but that's just not really an option with the injuries on the back end.
