Discovery was Hot Awful though. I get where they're coming from there and I actually largely agree with them.
Its something that always makes me wonder why Producers decide to go the 'prequel' route? Because there is the possibility of introduction of Characters we know?
What really sucks is that to make things interesting they introduce characters, technologies, scenarios and circumstances to develop story around that just doesnt fit or make sense within the context of the larger world that they're leaning on.
I like that Picard is set where it is.
"Bad, terrible, awful #### has happened. This is how we move forward."

I distinctly remember Harry Kim in Voyager talking about using all of his monthly transporter credits in a week after he moved away from home in the pilot episode, so it would seem everyone gets an allotment of personal transports for long distance travel and everything else is just standard shuttles

That, like most of Star Trek Voyager....makes no damned sense.

I always got the impression that the transporters required a team of specialists to operate, even then it was pretty reckless and dangerous to use them. There were multiple major storylines revolving around transporter accidents.
I never really got how those damn things worked. Why not use them to create an army of soldiers? Cure diseases? Keep you young? Etc....

by the TNG era they are probably the statistically safest way to travel. given how common site to site transport was, there was barely even a reason for a transporter room at all.
as for all your other questions...about as futile as understanding the Heisenberg compensators. same thing happens when you try to think about how holodecks really work.

Pretty sure they did both of those, along with some accidental cloning and various other misuses of the technology.
And yes, again, eventually site-to-site transport became common which I'm sure was soul-crushing to Chief O'Brien.
"Nobody visits anymore...."
Then you could shoot people with teleporter tags and on and on it goes.

Yeah, I dont think we really want to go down the rabbit-hole of Holodeck use.
If Holodecks worked that way and that well we'd probably see more '24th Century Den on Iniquity' and less 'Harmless fun imaginary playroom.'
It'd look like a Jackson Pollock painting.

Isn't there a shot in the trailer of a bunch of transporter booths lined up along the street?
Yeah: https://youtu.be/Ishyf14_yx0?t=70
If transporters are a thing then they'd generally replace other kinds of transport.

come on we have a vast amount of our current population that can't drive the speed limit in their cars while forgetting to turn off their signal lights. I think operating federation future tech would be beyond 80% of our population

I just continue to be surprised by how badly people shoot in the future despite their high tech weapons. Enjoyed the show though.

Especially a weapon with no recoil that theoretically shoots a beam that arrives instantaneously.
I love the head fakes in Star Trek as people are blocking shots heading at light speed at their noggins.
If there's any weapon that should be 100% point and click and kill from like thousands of yards away, its phaser weapons. You'd have to be a boob to miss.

LOL, The Orville ran with this theory, turning it into Lt. Bortus's "Sex Lagoon"

That episode is genius. So many layers of awkwardness simultaneously.

I enjoyed it. Had great visuals, and just seeing Picard again was awesome. Data too. Can't wait to see who else they bring aboard the show, either full time or cameos. This is coming from someone that avoided all season previews and trailers so I have no idea what is being planned.

Yeah I was waiting for the Star Trek episode where they storm into the holodeck because of massive power usage and they find Barclay in there having it on with holo troi.
Or Picard partying with holo Troi and Crusher (not wesley).
I'm sure there was a lot of total suspicion on the crew of the enterprise, about who was screwing who's holodeck representation.

So hypothetical question. You have a holo deck, you're wife has gotten older, gained a few pounds and become a angry person not interested in sex. So you go to the old holosuite and beep boop beep program a younger hotter friskier version of your wife.
Is it still cheating?
