^ Take away Harper and Machado and that team is horrible. Even with them it doesn’t seem very competitive. That pitching, yikes.

Not great for sure.
But if you compare that to say what an NHL team would look like with players that were only available in Free Agency as of August 1st it's probably 100x better.
Is that team any worse than say what the Blue Jays will run out this year if you're not considering age and future potential?

Second series of the season for the Phillies is in Washington. Will be fun to watch the reaction Harper gets.

It's not going to be pretty. If he to California and came back, he'd have got a standing ovation at his first plate appearance. This is not far off McDavid going to Calgary. Well if Calgary was the lesser team in a crappy city!

13 years at that salary is nuts. Here we were thinking that teams got their act together. The GM and ownership should have their heads checked. What is the PA saying now?

Too bad, would have loved to see if he'd get $500 million if he went to market. Given this contract, I suspect he would have.

How pissed off is Scott Boras right now? THere is no scenario imaginable where he can get the top contract for some time.

I suppose being jealous of that amount of money makes fans fixate on truly how much dollars that is. Trout hitting 250 homers amounts to approximately $1.5 million dollars per shot (give or take a few 100k). He probably will hit more in the end but that contract amount plus the endorsement money will put him over the top. Certainly envious but good for him - if that is what the market will bear

It's actually 10 years, $360 million, but the remaining two years of his current deal got rolled in for luxury tax purposes.

It's an amazing contract, and while no player IMO, is "worth" that long a contract, if anyone at all is, Trout is the guy. Generational talent, great stats, enthusiastic, fairly quiet, a good representative for the game. 12 year contract, wow, good luck to the Angels being able to surround him with talent after giving up that much money.

Not as pissed off as Allan Walsh is. That narcissist threw a major temper tantrum on Twitter last night. Even though hockey players get a much greater percentage of HRR than baseball players get of BRR under the current cap system.

Speaking of bargains the Astro's locked down Bregman to a 6 year extension at 100 million.
