seems stunning to me that if you were in some situation where your season is on the brink and you need a goal to get to tie and extend, that you are going to roll four lines if you have three forwards who each have 50+ points compared to the defensive specialist who perhaps has 7 points thru 60 games.
I like Hollywood endings as much as the next guy, but as a parent I'd be startching my head over that.

Yup that's the problem in a nutshell right there...
Where your season is on the brink is one thing - it happening all year is another... Even AAA ice times should be fairly even outside of special teams and the odd double shift... We've played with guys who get 4-5 shifts a game and paid the same $12k I did - it's not right and its on the coaches 100%.
My son has also been double shifted so many times in a game he could hardly move after. He didn't want to play quad anymore because it simply wasn't fun - it was more like a job.
And don't give me the he must not be cut out for it crap - I get letters and phone calls all the time from recruiters and US schools for him to go play - but I also get them for football and that's what he has decided he wants to do...
I get it your living the dream with your kid - I've been there - done it too, I've also been on the other side of it where I didn't care about my players - they were pieces to get me wins ...I couldn't sleep at night because I was so worried about my job because it simply comes down to wins and losses.
I'm not saying that at the highest levels it should be equal playing time - not saying that at all and I get it... But my initial comment was in regards to Novice age players and 9/10 yrs old and if you believe they should be sat and double shifted at that age your part of the problem...
But you'll wake up one day and see it for what it is - we all do...

I see quadrant hockey for what it is - a road to fame and fortune for my kid and my ticket to easy street......rolleyes.....
I feel for the families that pay the cost and their kids see limited ice time - lots of those kids should opt to play AA and get more minutes, but for lots of kids who get into the quad stream playing MAAA is the goal.

Your tone is very condescending. I think most of us are talking about getting double shifted in elimination games and third periods of playoffs. I'm not sure managing ice time for 10-11 year olds for a normal game in January is in any person's best interests.
If you want to play for fun there are clearly different avenues for you to take, but if you want to play competitive hockey, there's a pecking order, just like life. I'm not sure telling your kid that it's wrong for the best player on your team to get double shifted in the third period Mac's Midget Final is beneficial either.

Imagine this scene: Time is running out in a tied game, in a youth hockey season where wins have been rare. As the chances of winning shrink with each tick off the clock, should the bench shrink with it? Should a team send out only its best players in an effort to win while any perceived “weak links” remain on the bench?
The answer? No.

And in the eyes of Massachusetts native and USA Hockey Assistant Executive Director of Membership Development Pat Kelleher, it should never be an option, nor ever be considered.
“It seems so crazy to me that the importance of winning a single hockey game is more important than kids experiencing youth hockey,” he says. “Honestly, I can’t grasp that.”

But notice this changes in Grade 10 when children need to learn that life just isn't fair sometimes.
EDIT: Just so no one goes with the "personal attack" routine, my children are far too young to be involved in competitive sports so this has nothing to do with living vicariously through them.

Some great info on here. My son plays Atom City Leauge but i was furious this past Sunday when his Coach was limiting his shifts to 30 seconds but the other D pairings were staying out for 2 to 3 minutes. My son lacks confidence in his game but the day before he outplayed all the Dmen on his team. I honestly think he was trying to bring his confidence down the next day. My son was pissed and told his Coach why he was getting short shifted. His next shift he scored lol. My son just started play hockey last season but he is one of the better skaters on his team.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings ... But again - have some perspective in regards to what I was commenting to originally and that is double shifting and sitting players in Novice... not the Mac's. Fairly substantial difference there...
And every kid should be playing for fun - no matter what the level.

I am excited as my son's team gets their playoffs going tonight. My son (a goalie), will get the start......we had a best case scenario with respect to our playoff pool, as the two of the top 4 teams the boys have the most difficulty with are in the other pool.
will be interesting to see which boys on the team can elevate their game.

As a parent, I don't choose the team my kid plays on but I do pay the same as everyone else. If they want to pay me for my son to play then bench him all you want. As long as I am paying the same as everyone else it is equal time for all not matter the situation or age group. It is the only way they learn how to deal with all situations (winning, losing close games, PP,PK etc...)
Benching as disciplinary tool I am fine with.

^ if fair play/ice time is important to you, then you may not want to get into the world of quad hockey.
my sons team lsot game one of their playoff pool. this game was the most winnable of their three guaranteed games, so the chances of getting thru to sunday went from difficult to very difficult - but you never know what can happen

It's highly competitive. Presumably the end goal for players in that tier is WHL, College, CIS, or pro (ECHL, AHL, NHL, Europe).
Point being, there is still very good hockey being played in Bantam and Midget community (in fact I'm sure most Division 1 teams could beat AA teams) so in that regard for those who don't want the intensity of quadrant, they can play community.

Those don't seem like goals, they seem like byproducts of attaining goals.

i would say the goal of quadrant hockey would be to provide a place for the "elite" players to play against each other and develop their skills, in a more competitive environment than can be offered in community hockey.
i would say there is likely more internal pressure to win, as presumably the teams have more A+++ personalities on them.
while not really a goal, the player will likely be more committed to the game due to the number of practices and games and off ice sessions with the team. In addition a a player at this level is likely doing more training (dryland, spring hockey, camps etc) throughout the off-season

It is a great time for hockey in the Sutton family. One nephew just participated in Pee wee A provincials and another just won Midget A provincials, another nephew currently playing Midget AAA provincial finals and another still playing in AJHL playoffs.

SO we finished the year with two provincial champions in the family. Nephew won AAA Midget provincials yesterday here in Lethbridge, his third in three years and 4th overall going back to Atom AA, definitely a special group of kids, not the most talented but they work their tails off, play disciplined and are very coachable.
It was quite the year for midget hockey in Lethbridge, provincial gold in AAA, 15AAA, and A and a silver in AA. Will never see a year like that again.

^ I was surprised to see the 15AAA team won as I thought there were two teams that I thought were better - one was deeper, and the other had explosive firepower.

At the start of the year nobody wouldve predicted the 15's winning gold but by the end it was really a toss up between them and Rocyview (who took silver) I don't think there is any doubt they had the two best goaltenders in the league (no offense) and we all know how anything can happen in a tournament format.
