Ah, that's one other thing I recall with range extenders and routers vs Mesh. Hand off is so much better and there's far less drops.

There are a few devices that don't like mesh networks (ie: My Anova hates it as I can get details from it, but not control it), but I'd easily take the trade off vs power line adapters, modems, extenders etc. and a mesh network is so much easier to set up.

But based on what you're describing, the ability to have a mesh network node on each floor in theory should allow you to get consistent 60-70 mbps by reducing dead zones and it should also have better hand off so you should get far less drops and stalls vs your current system.

The other nice thing is if suddenly you want to add another node for a specific reason (get too used to nice speeds and want a specific node somewhere), you can and it will quickly and easily mesh with the mesh. Same if a node fails and you have to replace it. Far less individual set up with those things to get them to play nicely together.

csnarpy I'm sure that's an amazing setup but that's not really where I'd ideally like to allocate $600 of my money. I was kind of hoping to keep it under 3.
Ya I know it’s overkill but I am getting 600/30 pretty much everywhere. Less screaming & complaining kids is a good thing.. lol

So I’d advise you to get the Amplifi Instant. You should be able to get 300+ Speeds and it’s around $250 (the source has it for that I believe)with a mesh point included and expandable

According to Best Buy's black friday flyer this is going on sale for 250, and I'd be interested in any thoughts or experiences: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...t-buy/13021824
I see $350? If it was $250 it would be a no brainer but at $350 I find myself on the fence as well given some questionable reviews. Conversely, the Eero kit seems to be well reviewed but costs $549 for a base unit + 2 beacons — maybe it will go on sale next weekend...

I find myself in a similar situation where my Wi-Fi needs a little help busting through old plaster and brick walls (not ideal for wifi) but also not wanting to drop half a grand on networking equipment when my current setup is passable (but could be much better).

Yeah I think I saw 250 on another model maybe... Or maybe it was the version with only two nodes. Can't remember.

If you do find something, let me know.

I think I've resigned myself to this Eero kit (1 pro, 2 beacons — don't need the wired capabilities of the 3 pro kit). Hoping it goes on sale next week!

What is your internet plan at? I have 1GB with Telus with a long narrow 1800 sq/ft house. I bought eero Pro 3 pack last year. I would say it was right move.

I get about 280 mbps anywhere in the house wifi with wired at 1 GB. I do have the standard eero in the detached garage for backyard wifi but that tops at 150 mbps.

Still plenty, but after you buy this, if you are not getting good speed get the full pro pack.

I love it. Best wifi ever, and never think of it.

^ just a Telus 150/150 plan, so nothing too fancy.

But on further consideration, I’m going to just bite the bullet and do a 3-pack of pro’s. They’re on sale at BestBuy this weekend and I think the triband will likely provide better backhaul capabilities (also the flexibility to wire in the backhaul in the future if I get a few wiring items sorted out here).

Ugh. I just can't get myself there. I'm not sure what the mental hurdle is given I spent $1000 on kitchen knives and frying pans this week but it's just really tough to get me to shell out more than a couple hundred bucks for wifi stuff.

I assume it's just a holdover from decades gone by where a router just was $150 or so and it was hard to spend much more than that on it. Or maybe it's the thing about how this expenditure provides literally no new service or product, it just makes the product I'm already paying for available slightly further away. Either way, I don't think I can join you in biting that bullet.

After watching a few reviews, I went with this one.

I am now getting exactly the same speeds as I would standing 5 feet from my router anywhere in the house. Worst I can manage to get is maybe 90% of full speed. It's pretty impressive for under $200.
