Default Cell Phone Plans

There seems to be a few different threads for this, so I apologize if this is duplication, but...

I am looking at getting the S7, would you buy one out right or go on a plan to offset the cost?

Any fantastic plans out there? President Choice Mobile seemed pretty good, but no S7!

Costco seems to offer the same plans as companies, but gives slight deals on those plans.

Buy the S7 outright, and then follow the steps in the "$55 Koodo plan" thread. (Now $48.)

The big thing is to go to a retail store, get a basic Sask or Manitoba plan with a number. Switch the plan online to the $48 plan, and after that port your AB number over.

Been trying to get my hands on an S7, prices on Kijiji are all over the place, and some look like obvious clones.
Can you recommend where to get one outright?

If you forecast the total cost for the two year plans, it'll be cheaper to buy outright and go on the $48 plan.

Unless you're super good at haggling with them over the phone and getting a $60 2-3GB plan or the phone for $0.

Koodo has a $200 activation credit on a Tab Plus plan plus a $200 trade-in credit (for any old phone) on a S7. So you can get a S7 at a Koodo store for $0 down and a $504 Tab (plus $10 sim card). You then cancel it the next day and get a final bill of $504 plus tax plus 1 day of service.

Not to make you do all my homework for me, but what is a tab plus?

Best combo is to buy my phone out right, do they above and then do the Sk/MB idea in the other thread?

Default Cell Phone Plans

Getting the SK plan will be best if you can. I lived in SK and moved to AB 2 years ago. Kept my number and plan as its free nationwide calls/texts. Renewed and upgraded to an s7 edge last weekend in bestbuy and was able to keep my plan. The guy in the store couldn't believe the difference in plans. For 10 gb of shared data myself and my gf have with bell, we pay $25. Here in AB the same shared 10gb is $85. Crazy!

Yeah, I think all of the providers have discounted rates in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as there is a 4th major provider in each of those provinces. (MTS and Sasktel.) The challenge is finding one that has the loophole that Koodo offers. I'm sure you could get a Bell plan with a Saskatchewan number, but if your friends here don't have nation-wide calling, they may end up paying long distance to call your Saskatchewan number.

Koodo has a regular Tab which defers upto $360 on the price of phone to pay off over 2 years, and a Tab Plus which allows $504 but has a lousier selection of plans. At this time though, Koodo is offering a $200 credit for activating a S7 on a Tab Plus plans and the plans won't matter since you will cancel right away.

I agree with getting the phone separately and then getting the $48 plan.

I don't think it's possible, you have to call to cancel or port out the number if you don't want to talk to anybody.

I went on Bestbuy.ca - it looks like you have to be with a Carrier prior to buying a phone?

Did this today, took me 20 minutes.
Brought in an old blackberry, got an S7 for $504 on a tab plus plan, which I plan on cancelling next week.

Makes me think they are going to stop this soon. So if you are thinking about it, do it soon.

This has been around for months. Almost a year at this point.
Edit: Looking at the other Koodo thread, it's existed even before September 2014 (remember it existing on Redflagdeals before being posted here).

Who are you with now Kaavy? I negotiated pretty much the same plan as the SK Koodo one, but with a bit more data, for $52/mo on Fido (no contract). Lots of great threads on RFD about negotiating retention plans like this. Might be worth a shot before switching carriers.
