I remember I was with my cousin who was looking for his first house back in 2002, and Evanston was a brand new community we visited. The showhome person talked about this 14th St. overpass to eventually exit onto the future ring road. Glad that only took about 20 years to come to fruition lol.

If it's the 24th now I'm not sure Oct 1 is realistic for the ring road opening

Well it's not like Evanston was hard to access with the Symons Valley overpass right there that was built with Stoney. I have no idea why anyone would have bought a house that far north before Stoney was built though, commuting must have a been a huge pain in the ass

Seems like that Stoney/14th interchange has just been sitting there fully done for over 2 weeks.

Won't someone think of the ceremonial ribbon cutting?
Kenney has to show he's been doing something other that driving the province into the ground.

Yeah I heard that too. Some friends have driven over it on their bikes and couldn't figure out why it wasn't opened yet

Fully open now and it's glorious. A lot of time savings for a lot of people.

Has there been anything official yet on the SW for October 1? I’ve heard it anecdotally, just haven’t seen anything from The province

It's in the contract. The contractor gets penalized if they don't make it.

That doesn’t mean it’ll actually open that day (as evidenced in the SE). It looks like it’s ready, but you think they’d be advertising by now.

Didn't think it was actually significant enough a project to warrant a "ceremony" but Nenshi was up there.

Yeah they get railed every single day after October 1 that it's not open. The dates were confirmed way back in 2016:
Quote:
Pursuant to an RFQ and RFP process, the Province has selected the Contractor to design, build and finance, and for a 31 year term commencing on the earlier of traffic availability of the applicable leg or October 1, 2020, to operate, maintain and rehabilitate, a portion of the southwest leg of the ring road in the City of Calgary and has selected the Contractor to design, build and finance, and for a 30 year term commencing on the earlier of traffic availability of the applicable leg or October 1, 2021...
|
Again the main reason it was split in 2 is to ensure the part through the reserve was done first, as there is a time limit (May 2022) after which the deal is off the table if the road isn't open from Glenmore to Fish Creek Blvd.
( boring long legal document)

For the SE they literally still had to build half the Mckenzie interchange with 6 weeks to go. SW appears to be ahead of where Henday NE was at this same time out, and they easily opened on time in 2016. KGL doesn't care about advertising, if it wasn't a P3 project the province would maybe care a bit about hyping it up. Even with the chaos in the province there will be some festivity, however minor, on opening day.

Acey, when does Stoney at HWY 1 up to Old Banff schedule to open? Right now, that area is a mess.

Yeah it's a mess right now. 2024 is for the whole thing from Glenmore to Highway 1 but other bits might be open sooner. The original target was 2022.
