Turner Valley's own Amos Garrett was quite the session musician back in the day.

I also had the cassette Bloodbath at the chinese disco, great music.

Ya Feist was in Placebo if I recall correctly too.
What about Red Autumn Fall? They were local legends back in the day. Looking it up their disc was called 'Departure'.
Also, HeatRay released their debut (?) this year, 'Loveallover', and it's pretty wicked. Top-notch guitarwork that can hold its own against a lot of the shoegaze out there.

I remember going to some concert where Placebo was the opener and being disappointed it wasn't the other Placebo.
I feel like Feist was one of those people you heard about playing in some venue every weekend so many times, that the name didn't even register anymore.

Good to see Jay crocker on that list, that white kid shoulda been black.

I know I saw them in concert but I don't actually remember that well. When they were in their heyday, I was still in highschool and only occasionally getting to the city for an all-ages show. But I had an album (self titled? the one with 'Shaman' on it), and I thought it was pretty good.

yeah Scotty and Kelly both went to the same school as me (although a year younger and older respectively). Scotty and I still hang out pretty often and Kelly used to play in my band when our bassist was gone.

I remember going to see him at the King Eddy back in the day, thinking, no way this dude can play, he's old and shaky looking...and being very, very wrong.

fun topic
sounds like some of you might find some goodies in here! - heaps of hard to find stuff that was formerly collectin' dust:
http://calgarycassettes.blogspot.com/
i was peripherally involved in the "community center shows" hardcore/metal stuff in the mid to late 90s (a band i had a stint in is featured on the site) and have some good friends amongst a couple of the bands mentioned in this thread who are still alive and thriving in the calgary scene
shouts out as well to Roscoe Pecoe...and not sure if anyones mentioned the Smalls yet (not Calgary directly though) or Earth Pig...
was blown away returning to calgary a few years back for a visit after being away for a long time - seemed like just a ton more shows, venues and general interest in all kinds of music. gotta be a testament to the staying power and talent of the local scenes and a real stubborness while so many people headed out east or west to make a go...'course the economic and general growth probably didnt hurt either.
lots of amazing memories of calgary music growing up.

When I read the first paragraph (before I saw the posted list), my first thought was "Beyond Possession". And there they are, first band on the list!
Watching Beyond Possession play live shows in the mid-to-late-80's was an absolutely intense experience. Every now and then they'd play a show with SNFU, and the hall/club would damn near explode.
I was a DJ at CJSW when "...Is Beyond Possession" was released, and I remember playing the hell out of it (along with the "Tell Tale Heart" 7"). That album really set the stage for a whole new genre of music... it's too bad Beyond Possession never reaped the benefits of it.
I always got a kick out of running in to Ron at The Record Store on 17th. Ah, memories.

I don't seen Zuckerbaby in any lists yet.....I enjoyed that band late '90's. A few of their hits got air time on MuchMusic.

Zukerbaby was awesome. I remember when I was younger there was an article in the paper one day saying Zukerbaby was asking fans to show up at some school for filming of their latest music video. I was so stoked, and then my parents wouldn't let me go.
