Brilliant! Thanks.

I have an Iginla rookie rated 10/10 for sale (94/95 Upper Deck #181). Will accept reasonable offers.

This thread has inspired me to want to break out my Score 1991 complete set for nostalgia. Still in the same binder since I got them.

You should! If anything, you can see some cool photos, and learn about random guys named "Butsy" who went over a PPG after spending three years out of the NHL:

Nostalgia for the 1970s early 1980s when you could get a pack of hockey cards for 10 cents. Used to spend my $1 per week on 10 packs. Or sometimes I saved for a month to buy a Star Wars figure.

Good times.

Some pickups from ebay the past week. Love these 90's rookies!

Upper Deck still does make some cheap packs for kids and collectors. OPC, Victory, and MVP are all very cheap. By 1980 packs were 25 cents each, which is about 75 cents today. Cards aren't quite that cheap. For about $2 you can get one of these cheap packs, but the quality of the cards inside is much better than those made in the 1980s.

Also, since adult collectors have entered the market, they throw away most base sets. I give away thousands of cards to people on craigslist every year. I try to ensure they end up in the hands of kids.

Basically my point is that the growth in the upper end hasn't eliminated the lower end.

^^^^^ implicit in my post was that the whole notion of cards was ruined by adults making it a collection industry. Sort of like comics too.

The simple enjoyment of walking to the neighborhood store and getting home to unwrap your packages of cards .... throwing your doubles out and keeping ones not in the collection and ticking the boxes on the team index cards.... once you had acquired those!

Being able to get the whole set at once .... totally ruined the fun.
