I would imagine Russic has now made family friends for life with this common bond. The upside he likely always has a place to stay on the Eastern seaboard, downside it’s in New Jersey.
"Listen...I've got this friend in Carney's Point and he needs some....'incentive' to stay in Calgary so....I'm gonna need you to go ahead and take care of that...mmmkay..."

Why hello. I was told by park rangers that if I chose to speak to the media it would be "an experience", and they weren't lying. It's been a bit of a distracting couple days, but I think it's starting to die down a bit. Rapid fire quote time!

I was a bit worried about that on night 2. I didn't sleep at all the night of the incident, so night 1 I totally crashed. Night 2 though I couldn't close my eyes without hearing screaming, so that was pretty uncomfortable. Luckily my wife and I have been talking quite a lot, and reconnecting with the family to chat has been really helpful. I've had a few good nights in a row, so I think I'm trending in the right direction.

Yes, my facebook now has a fairly large subsection of very kind Americans. Mostly aunts of the victims it seems. Apparently New Jersey is quite nice if you get out of the city!
Some details that don't make it into every article:
- There isn't a known pack in the area so the wolf must have travelled a ways
- It was quite thin and its teeth were worn down (due to age I suppose), so it was likely desperate and close to death
- The worn down teeth ended up being a huge bonus for Matt, who's bicep probably should have been torn off. Instead it's just super bruised and scratched.
- No rabies (*fist pump*)
- Their kids are super cool, and if you're wondering what might keep kids from talking for 20 straight minutes about pokemon, apparently a wolf attack won't even do it. That was our chosen "don't look at daddy bleeding" conversation.
- They were alarmingly prepared, with a knife and bear spray in the tent with them. The situation went from "did you hear that", to very hectic in an instant. I don't think people are quite able to grasp what pure panic does to you in a situation like that. There's been a lot of "I'll tell ya what I would have done..." on twitter. If it's more complicated than locating a tent zipper, you might be surprised how hard it is.
- My new buddy Todd from a few sites over is getting zero recognition and he should. He came over thinking it was a straight-up axe murder, so that's amazing to me. He also housed my entire family in his RV alongside his own family while I drove everybody to go call for help (Rampart Creek is in a cellular dead zone).
- The only other people who came to help were other Americans. We need to step our game up, Canada. They didn't even have their guns. They were lost without them, but they still showed up!
Well, that's all for now. Have a good, wolf-free day everybody.

“Hey, remember that time I saved your family’s life by beating up a wolf? Yeah? Well, I need to a place to stay again, and I like my morning bagel to be toasted with regular cream cheese, not the ‘light’ stuff you usually have in the fridge. And have some Mr. Pibb in the fridge too”.
