Default NHL Teams Ranked by Forward Group (ESPN)

Middle of the pack at 17th but at least the Flames beat the Oilers!

I disagree with much of the list.

After 6, the order seems way off.
Kings and Sharks with the NHL seniors tour and some look very average.
Oilers should have been top 3 just to set them up like a volleyball before the inevitable.

Vegas, Sharks, LA, Florida all too high at first glance. I think Flames are closer to 12-15 area.

LA seems a little too high as well, probably because they signed Kovalchuk.

The Oilers are also way too high because...

Based on the criteria he used, its probably not far off.

Here's how we rank the forward groups for all 31 NHL teams entering the 2018-19 season. The criteria included overall depth, strength of the team's top line, last season's offensive output and a general sense of how the pieces fit.

There are a lot of teams in the ranking above the Flames that I would not consider trading forward groups with - not for this year, and certainly not in future years.

Anything that uses last season’s stats is going to underrate the Flames because of their absurdly low 4th quarter shooting percentages.

Using the first three quarters of last season likely produces a much better picture of where the Flames are going to be - and I believe that the Flames are improved from even that.

The truth is that the Flames forwards did very poorly last year and 17th sounds about right. Lets see what they can do this year, and really it is a matter of proving it on the ice, potential means nothing until its realized.

Basically the new players will have to step up and fulfil their potential, and perhaps a rookie or two will move the team much higher in these rankings. For right now I believe this ranks the Flames correctly. Really I would like to see Dube make the team and others like Jankowski and Bennett step up.

Florida at 13th is hilarious. Otherwise, gotta say I do agree with the top 3 they got there.

I don't see too much issue with this list outside of Vegas and San Jose.

San Jose has declining performance from their old stars.
