He shouldn't be. Baertschi was simply horrible last game. His backwards pass to Hudler instead of driving the net was probably the last straw and I have always been a big Baertschi supporter but he needs a sitting.

RT @SUNGilbertson: Based on #Flames line rushes this morning, LW Sven Baertschi is a healthy scratch tonight. Also, D Chad Billins will make NHL debut.

Baertschi really needs to score a goal tonight. He's playing real good, just needs that confidence boost.
edit: Or he needs to be scratched. I guess that's just as cool...

Karma?
Seriously, it's a mystery. He allegedly (source: Russo) came into camp looking and feeling great. Rehabbed his injury and then kept on training over the summer, I guess.
He's just dead-slow. And he's probably gripping the stick pretty hard by now, but he's making turn overs, taking penalties, and when he finally gets a shot off it's wide, high or both.
He was very good for us two seasons ago, was fine last season until he got hurt, and has been terrible so far this season. On balance, I'm still happy we traded for him - just to get out from under Havlat if nothing else.

Nothing against Jackman, but he really needs to be traded/waived. He brings nothing to a rebuilding team. Scratching Baertschi / Bouma so he can be in the lineup every night is ridiculous.

CHAD "BIG POINTS" BILLINS IS IN! Yeeeees.
So my girlfriend and I made up this nickname for him in the pre-season and we really want it to become a thing.
Sigh we're nerds.

That play made me cringe as well. Like c'mon Sven, that's not helping your case any.

Yep but I still don't think that lets Hartley off the hook for treating his players differently. Baertschi may deserve being a healthy scratch but if he was using the same standards for every player then we would have had half the games played without Glencross and Jackman would be in the AHL.

I agree, he needs to pot a few and get his confidence.
Will these scratches get him going, or will he just squeeze his stick tighter knowing the next mistake puts him back in the press box.

IMO, Baertschi was pretty bad against the Hawks. Plays seemed to die on his stick and physically, it looks like he took a step back this year - he gets tossed off the puck too frequently.
Hopefully Hartley is able to approach Sven in such a way that he maintains his motivation. Sven seems like a smart kid so hopefully he understands how far his game has to come for him to be a regular.

I will try to keep my streak alive. This will not be a close game tonight.
4-1 or 6-0 Wild, for a multitude of reasons.

If all of this leads to Sven being a better player down the road, then I'm all for it.
But right now its tough to see, when not long ago this guy was considered a can't miss.
