Rumor is they’re talking about offering FVV $83 million over 2 years. Does a two year deal get it done though?

That's crazy money for a player who can't deliver or carry the team on his back at this stage. What the heck are these guys in management thinking? If Fred doesn't sign that he's crazy.

It’s a two year deal though. He will have longer offers.
Kind of a perfect storm for the Rockets. $60 million in cap space and not going to contend in next two years so no need to save money for other adds. And no sense being content with losing and accumulating high draft picks. They don’t control their first round pick for a few years.

There's also the new CBA requirement that teams spend to at least 90% of the cap by opening night. Houston is something like $50 million short of that threshold. Even before Harden opted in it made far more sense for Houston to throw that money at someone like VanVleet who comes from a good culture and is a better team guy than Harden. Would be a very smart signing for them if they can get that term, keeps their long term cap options open.

extremely talented players, but I doubt many NBA fans will shed a tear when those clowns retire one day.

I believe in the Jays.

I’m sad to see FVV go, I enjoyed his tenure with the Raps. The time was right though, there was no way we could build a contender with that contract. I wish him the best.

That’s the guy who bet on himself and lost $75M, right?

Fred was a great story, but the past few seasons he's been chronically injured. I'm utterly shocked a team was willing to give him that much money. He's truly worth about a third of it in my estimation. I think he's quickly aging and I truly believe his best days are behind him. No idea what Houston is thinking.

That #### right there is why Harden doesn’t have any titles.
You can’t be MJ and Rodman at the same time.
Go out. Fine.
Don’t go out so often they retire your jersey.
Hit the ####ing gym.

The third year was not what the Rockets wanted, as it is going to preclude them from making a big splash in two years time when maybe they will be a contender. But when you consider their situation, it still makes sense. Great fit with the coach and a bunch of young players that need a point guard and veteran leadership.
