I've had a huge pizza craving this week. We tried Olive Grove over the weekend because I saw it mentioned here a while ago, but it was NFG. New management I guess.

I bought a bunch of toppings to make some pizzas at home one night this week... anyone have a recommendation for a good store bought pizza crust? I used to buy a good one called Boboli's thin crust at Co-op. They don't sell it anymore, and nothing else has come close since.

In a pinch I use Naan bread as a store bought pizza crust. Pretty good results.

Boboli? a great crust that I used to help my mom put toppings on, while I listened to Naughty By Nature on my yellow waterproof Sony Walkman.

Tops is good, but I just can't bring myself to go there very often because Two Guys is across the street and it's better.

Making your own crust is pretty easy....Mix flour with water (and yeast) and a little olive oil/salt. Let rise for an hour.

Homemade is always best! On a weeknight I don't have the time or ambition though. I tried one that was kind of naan-ish from Save-On... it was decent.

Anyone that's within distance, should at least try this place. Windsor is really well known for great pizza, if they have replicated it correctly, it should be awesome.

Michaels on 10th ave.

I've taken about five people there now. Every one of them has returned with me or without. The pizza is very similar to atlas pizza. Is it a bit better or a bit worse than atlas is debatable. If you don't like atlas pizza then chances are you won't like Michaels either.

This is the best homemade pizza recipe. If you have a cast iron skillet, give this a try. I especially like that you can throw it on the stove for a few extra minutes to crisp up the crust.

I wanted to try this place out last night.

No website.
no online menu.

Hopefully they get properly set up soon. Looks tasty, I'm looking forward to trying it.

That is not good. I can't imagine opening a new business these days without those things up and running immediately.

Here's what I do for homemade pizza.

I buy a prepackage dough mix, often this one:

Where it says add a cup of water, I substitute a cup of beer. To warm it, I'll pour the half a cup of beer into a glass and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Mix with the dough mix, cover and let sit for 10 minutes.

In that time, I take out a cutting board and what I believe is a vegetable slicer. Not unlike this one:

I use the slicer to slice a Sunrise Pepperoni Stick:

You want the pepperoni to be as thin as possible.

Once the dough is ready, spread on greased a baking sheet. Apply pizza sauce (whatever you have is fine).

Then put Italian Seasoning on the pizza sauce.

Spread pepperoni slices over the pizza dough/sauce. No need to place each piece nice and neat, just spread it all over.

Cover with pre-shredded mozzarella (or shred it yourself).

Throw in the oven (preheated to 450*F) for 20-25 minutes.

When done, take out the pizza, cut it, and then slide it onto a wire cooling rack.

Serve.

If you like to degrade your pizza and make it into a disgraceful mess, put vegetables and fungus on top of the cheese (but put the cheese on top of the pepperoni).

Great... now I want pizza (mind you I always want pizza).

They even have a Facebook page where people have asked their hours, and they haven't replied.

I'm beginning to think if you want to try this place you'd better get on it right away.

Once you practice a few times, it's pretty easy. Takes about 5 minutes to mix an then let rest for an 1 hour. It really adds to the pizza.

Another tip is to never use pre-shredded cheese. It's usually covered in silicone to prevent it from melting and sticking together in the bag. Unfortunately that also prevents it from melting properly on the pizza. You'll get a much nicer meltyness if you grate your own cheese from a block.
