GOAT!

Yost: Brodie is Flames' "advanced-stats MVP"
Also refers to "the Brodie pairing" as a key reason the Flames keep contending for a playoff spot each year. Obviously "the Brodie pairing" makes sense, because he's always paired with some schlub no one's ever heard of.

Too bad he's more than likely leaving then.

Of course he is, he's damn good. I'll be choked if he leaves, he should be a player you go out of your way to keep (like Backlund).

Don’t think he will leave actually. His team mates love him and his value is often under valued here. Don’t think the Flames feel the same way.

My heart was so full, very exciting. Thank you for being so sweet, like usual, Enoch - TJ will always be my MVP ❤️

It really depends on contract and term and what he wants. I am fine with bringing him back providing the contract makes sense for us.

Would love him back if he doesn't break the bank.

Assuming they can agree on terms, do you think Brodie would sign without a NMC?
I can't imagine he would want to be exposed in the expansion draft, and I don't see the Flames prioritizing him over Anderson, Hanifin and Valimaki.
(I am assuming Valimaki requires protection, and I assume Gio will be exposed)

I get that the team needs a shakeup. But it will be a sad day if Brodie is a part of that shakeup. IMO he's way down the list of ongoing issues that need addressing.
I hope both sides can find a deal that works.

Assuming the season is done Valimaki will not need protection.

Since Brodie's episode hes been alot better I'll be the first to admit. The biggest was him simplifying his game and not causing so many glaring turnovers. This is the Brodie that the flames need!

Maybe this is controversial, but I would fully support trading Giordano for futures and signing Brodie with part of Gio's money.

I agree with this. Obviously it depends on getting a huge return for Gio but I would be game for moving on at this point.

I dunno, to me all the evidence points in one direction - Brodie's gone not because of his circumstances, but his wife's.
I don't know if the whole Covid situation will end up flipping that decision on its head, but all other things being equal it would make more sense for him to sign with a team with an Ivy League MS treatment and research institution nearby. The closest thing Canada offers is Toronto.

Gio should play his entire career in Calgary. Not every player needs to be traded for asset management purposes, especially the team's captain and #1 defenceman when their window is supposed to be opening.

The Flames signed free-agent defensemen Connor Mackey from Minnesota State University-Mankato and Colton Poolman from University of North Dakota to one-year contracts March 20.
They have five defensemen -- TJ Brodie, Travis Hamonic, Derek Forbort, Erik Gustafsson and Michael Stone -- that can each become an unrestricted free agent after this season and another -- Oliver Kylington - that can become a restricted free agent.
"We know our contractual situation," Treliving said. "We look at it more like these were two young defensemen we could add to our group and we'll see how it sorts out. Us signing these two guys doesn't mean all our UFAs are gone.
