Default The Orville (Star Trek Spoof series)

Could be good, especially with the rumors around Discovery

I think this is going to be enjoyable or down right painful.

Its Family Guy in Space which means its going to be funny for a limited time only.

I like the idea and theres talent attached (I mean Jon Favreau not Seth) so it could be entertaining but I can already see it getting old fast.

It looks great. I hope the next Star Trek show has the same production value. Some of the jokes fell flat and that's not good considering trailers should be showing the best.

I'll watch it -- the last Star Trek spoof movie ended up being better than a lot of the actual Star Trek movies (Galaxy Quest). No reason not to give it a shot!

Exactly. I'll give it a whirl but I have low faith in Seth Macfarlane.

The premiere was last night. Looks to be on a few times this week on Fox. Most of the funny parts were already in the trailers- it would have been too campy otherwise. Still some good moments. A little slow with the character development, but to be expected with a new series.

I saw MacFarlane talking about it on Seth Meyers and they seemed to discuss how it's not a slapstick comedy like Family Guy, or A Million Ways to Die, and that the humour isn't the central part of the show. He does seem to want to make it about space exploration more than anything.

I am going to watch this premiere, didn't realize it already happened!

Once I saw the trailer, I was hoping this would be an entertaining show. I really hope it can strike the right balance.

Humour seemed to be pretty central in last night's episode.

There is a lot of room for character development; other than a couple characters you really didn't get a chance to see anything, but there looks like there should be loads to explore.

The question will be if they can come up with enough week to week plots, like Star Trek did, to allow the chemistry to form. We saw the bad guys, a couple different back stories. It had some rough spots but over time those will smooth over.

An following on twitter, the marble shot took 6 takes.

I actually really enjoyed it. I thought the visuals were really well done.

Why did I enjoy it, because its the anti-star trek.

In Star Trek the people were at times too perfect. Their personal lives too amazing.

When they were on duty they were razor sharp focused and disciplined.

I often wondered what was really said when the Captain was away on a mission. did they laugh at his baldness, talk about what a ahole he was?

Instead this show had all of that and more.

I mean it was a bit over the top especially the combat scene in space. But I thought Bortas or whatever his name was said it perfectly when the security chief mentioned the tension on the bridge "Don't make eye contact.

They also answered the question that has been haunting people for years. Are there actual toilets on star ships? Do these people ever eat or drink? We got a resounding yes to both. Also we finally got some good view screen human with a dog continually licking itself.

I think the show has lots of potential as it tries to have serious storylines and humor based on flawed humans.

I'm also waiting for a racist rant from the robot.

Oh and for those looking for overt star trek links. The doctor played Cassidy Yates on DS9, and the doctor on the planet played Bashir's father.

You mean Baboo from Seinfeld? You are a very bad man CaptainCrunch, a very, very bad man!

I liked it overall. Funny, not over the top and not cheesy, crappy, campy production.

Also produced by Brandon Braga (Trek executive producer and showrunner) and written by Andre Bormanis (Trek science consultant and writer).

Overall, I liked it. Some of the humor was a bit flat/forced, but it got some genuine laughs out of me too. Just fun to have a high production Trek-style show with a light tone on major TV -- hopefully it gets even better as it goes and sticks around!

I think people were expecting some slap-shtick comedy, but this is in line with Seth's love for Star Trek and wanting to create a universe that adds some humanity and humor to Roddenberry's very serious universe.

Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised considering all the brutal reviews it got.

I think the problem is if it isn't a parody, it's a rip off. They have some jokes, but then they don't make fun of the stupid science that trek does. In fact, they embrace it. A time dilation field is some great breakthrough? They can travel faster than light, time travel should be no problem. You could also orbit a black hole if you wanted to go far in the future. I know not having FTL travel would make dull sci go, The Expanse not withstanding, but ignore the gaps, don't embrace them unless you are making fun. Also, tardigrades are tough, but still need things like water, air, and food to grow and thrive. Splicing some tardigrade DNA into a redwood tree wouldn't make it grow without sunlight, air, dirt, nutrients, etc. If you are going to have that stupid stuff in there, make fun of it, like Galaxy Quest.

I don't know Pseudo, I think that they did a pretty good job of making fun of a lot of the technology there especially the time ray.

In Star Trek it would have bee

Scientist ages banana to dust

Captain - "Amazing"

Science officer - "Facinating" goes into a long discussions about what it can be used for but clearly understands the technology

Doctor - "But the implications of it are completely evil if used for the wrong reasons"

Engineer - "If I fire an inverse tacyon pulse through this device linking it to the warp engines, we can effectively time travel without orbiting the sun backwards"

On the Orville

Ages the banana

Captain - "I don't get it"

First officer - "So you made a banana aging ray?"

Scientist explains it again

Captain - "Still not seeing it"

Navigator - "If I put my junk in it will my junk travel into the future?"

Really? You're dissecting the science?

I'm glad I didn't see any of the trailers or reviews. I just went in expecting a light hearted space show and that is exactly what I got. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
