Same thing with Hambly.

For some reason, they both always get mentioned as potential call-ups.

perhaps there should be two topics, one asking who has been playing best and deserves to be in calgary based on that, and one that talks about who should be called up on basis of play and their contract status.

personally, i don't follow things close enough to monitor what type of contracts the guys have. so if someone was to ask me who deserves to get called up i very well might say someone like kolanos and not realize i look like a bafoon for not knowing his contract status.

i think it was reggie on the last page that mentioned the contract type stuff being discussed before; anyone know what threads those are? i would be interested in an overview of the various types of contracts and info on which guys might have which type.

We should probably put a sticky thread in there with links the CBA stating when different players can play pro (CHL, SEL, College, etc.), as well as a link to the rules regarding entery level contracts and qualifying offers so people don't keep asking the same questions.

My answer would be no one is going to be called up any time soon. As the Flames have a full roster of healthy players..... knock on wood.....LOL

Unless the injury bug hits the team, the team is fairly set.

The question on this thread was "Who deserves the next call up?" It wasn't "Which eligible player deserves the next call up?" I guess it may have been implied. I still say Germyn deserves it, whenever he becomes eligible.

I would put my money on Prust before either of Pelech or Chucko make it up.

On that train of thought and looking at someone else who is quietly going about having a solid season......how is Brett Palin looking? I see his +/- is an outlier to the upside sitting at +18 while next closest is at +4 and there are a total of 5 players in the "plus" category. He led +/- last year in Omaha too so not really a fluke. In junior, he was captain of Kelowna for 3 years and won a memorial cup. For an undrafted fellow, he looks good on paper and seems to be keeping his head down.

Off topic, but I noticed from your avatar Kolanos wearing #32. I'm trying to think of who the last Calgary Flames to wear that number was... Cale Hulse?

I thought Lydman wore 32 for the Flames.

Lydman wore 32, then we traded him to Buffalo. We picked up Cale Hulse from Columbus and he wore the 32.

after being in Calgary during a time when the Cannons were up 2 games to 0 in a best of 5 to win the AAA championship only to see Seattle call up our best pitcher to have him sit in the stands and not get one pitch at all, only to see him miss two potential starts and Calgary lose all the remaining games to lose the championship, I hope whomever we call up is someone we actually need to call up and who actually plays for the flames.

The pitcher was Dave Fleming. He was a lefty.

After the last four games, I can answer the original question here.

Who deserves the next callup? Not a single one of them....

That said, I'll be with them on the road Saturday night. Some days I feel like a glutton for punishment!!

So Chucko is living up to expectations...that is there aren't any.

What does this guy add?

When do you pull the chute on a guy drafted in 2004? What was it that Sutter said? 3 year's of pro are required?

In the woulda coulda shoulda world, watching Mike Green last night......wow....he would have looked pretty good on our blue line.

^I'd say next year he needs to show significantly more progress...if he does I'm ok with him having another year down there. If he doesn't show anything - yeah cut him loose.

Sometimes big dudes seem to take longer.

Yeah, at the end of three years I think you have to determine if the player can eventually be an NHL player for your team, be it a top 6, top 9 or 4th line forward. Chucko is a guy who I think will have to show a lot more next year if he wants to stay with this organization. Another guy is Tim Ramholt for next year. He's a guy who may very well decide to go back to Switzerland and take a nice contract over there. He's got options at home that are a lot more lucrative than another year in the AHL, and doesn't look like he's shown anywhere near enough to get a one way deal.

Nice turnout for that game. Yikes.
I've seen better crowds at junior high basketball games.
