That was a tad obnoxious.

No Emma stone. Not really a big deal but she kind of scoffed at the men in the best director category and singled out the female nominee and the crowd let out a big cheer.

The Shape Of Water - a lovely, special movie. I think time will judge Three Billboards the greater movie.

As much as I love McDormand, Sally Hawkins should have won.

Shape of Water was clearly the best film this year, they got it right.

Maybe, but don't you think The Shape Of Water will appeal to a greater audience? Three Billboards while very good could have been better had it had a real ending.

Three billboards was one messy movie with some serious flaws... certainly a decent movie, but not worthy of best picture.

One question I have about Three Billboards is how did a sheriff from the Ozarks find a smoking hot Aussie half his age? I guess it's possible but it felt really out of place to me.

The bigger question is how did Tonya Harding get played by a smokin' hot Aussie.

If you want to count plot holes, how does a deaf mute janitor consistently deceive a top secret Military lab?

The answer is that the movie is strong enough to overcome it.

I am not sure if this was part of the ofcial telecast or part of other networks red carpet coverage; however, twitter noted how ryan seacrest's microphone had a 30 second delay in case something was said to him about his troubles......

read a story about how the awards are slipping away from relevance; however, the same article indicated that ratings were something like 27 million people - so to me it seems a while before this show is something that is streamed somewhere on the internet only.

What did you like about shape of water?

It was formulaic oscar bait. It was literally a fish out of water story that had no subtlety. It won because people were arrosued by fish sex. This is a Crash worthy choice (ok not that bad).

It's cinematography and music were excellent but as a movie. blah

The World is now well again because Zaphod Beeblebrox has an Oscar.

What I liked about Shape of Water - it was not just a re-telling of Beauty and The Beast, because they were both outsiders who were more human than the world they inhabited. The gay friend and black janitor were outsiders too. I don't consider things plot holes because they don't make sense in the real world (a bathroom filling up with water?) - this was a fantasy where the plane of water encroached in our world.

Three Billboards - I thought the movie ended exactly where it should have. To find and get revenge on the killer might have been crowd pleasing, but does not make sense in a movie about how people cope with random chaos. I suppose it also leaves the door open for a sequel or a TV series like Fargo.

Many of the relationships involved an age discrepancy, and this is no coincidence. France's ex and Penelope, Woody and his wife, Dixon and his mother.

One of you mentioned the Ozarks - having been to Missouri, I remember it being quite flat. The scenery seemed to be in the Appalachians, and I found out later it was filmed in North Carolina.

Ratings down again this year. The Oscars are no longer a mass pop-culture event. The movies are obscure, the ceremony over-long, and the narcissistic preening and facile moralizing of the celebrities has become obnoxious to most people.

Its almost like watching a ballroom full of millionaires pat each other on the back has become tiresome and onerous.

Who would have ever seen that coming?

The Oscar's used to be supremely entertaining in an un-intentional way, but now they've become too long, and there are too many adopted causes that have filtered into it. On top of it, they tend to nominate movies based around the concept of "Look at how smart this makes us look when we nominate this movie"

I get the #metoo movement and the #timesup movement, but as they're making these dialogues about them and the camera is panning around this audience of actors who are solemnly nodding or wiping a perfect single tear from their cheek, the cynic in me shouts out, how many of them actually believe in this, give a crap about this, or are trying to make sure they keep their career going by jumping on the band wagon.

Out of the movies up for best picture, I've seen a couple of them. Frankly I was surprised that Get Out was nominated. Sure it had a interesting social commentary, but it was pretty boiler maker as a movie, and badly over acted. But I tend to think that it was nominated for the reasons above. "If we nominate this, the people, our audience will think we're enlightened and smart"

I thought the Post was very good, and being the history buff I am that The Darkest Hour was excellent, and Gary Oldman the perfect winner.

I rolled my eyes at the movie house scene where they served snacks at a theater and all the celebrities were waving at them. you know, to thank them personally. It just came across as cynical to me, and another pat on the back.

Four hours is way to long, and its great to catch a nap and not miss anything.

What does that even mean?

Did you mean boilerplate? Because that would be wrong as well. Get Out was fantastic.
