Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. - Barack
Most listeners don't really understand the uniqueness of this fact alone. Franklin could sing equally as strong and loud in low and high range, which is absolutely amazing. Rest in peace, Aretha.
FREEDOM!.. FREEDOM!.. FREEDOM!.. FREEDOM!..

Aretha could and still can belt out rock and roll but she is firstly, the queen of soul. Those were her roots as evidenced in this video.
Here are the queens of soul, Aretha Franklin, Sarah Vaughn, Roberta Flack and Peggy Lee. Add in Ella Fitzgerald, maybe Pearl Bailey and you have talent without end.
