FWIW here is an interesting rumor. Source is a kind of sketchy. IIRC a few years ago he was close to some Islanders players (mainly through gambling).

Seems like it checks off a lot of boxes for the Flames.

23 years old.

Center.

Decent AHL stats.

Russian.

Seems to be buried by oranizational depth

But he is small 5'8''

They're not pressuring Kylington what so ever to commit, they just to make sure he's okay.

Until Kylington is ready to have those discussions, I'm happy with the Flames taking this approach.

I am glad the flames did not use their last retention spot to trade Mangiapane at the TDL. Better to keep that retention spot available at the draft in case the opportunity comes to move up in the draft by packaging picks along with a retained salary player like Markstrom, Mangiapane, Coleman or (unlikely) Andersson. I feel like Buffalo or New Jersey could be teams that are desperate to get better and make the playoffs next year so their 2024 first round picks might be available for the right player. And they are set to pick in the top 10 right now although I think they’ll both end up with picks outside the top 10. Unfortunately, I don’t think Buffalo needs anything that the flames have as they are loaded at every position with young players/prospects.

No idea what we're going for.
Just looks like a mushy middle team.

Still lack elite talent. All our vets are one year older into their 30s.

Hopefully one if these young guys blows past their ceiling.

I think the Flames should 100% commit themselves to moving Mangiapane,
Kuzmenko, and Markstrom at the draft (not at the TDL next year... at the draft).

I don't think that's a mushy middle team, I think it's a lottery team.
They just sold all of their UFAs for futures, with a few reclamation projects thrown in. Reclamation projects that will be UFAs next year.
I know that they're talking about working hard and making the playoffs this year, but next year they're finishing bottom ten, and I think they know and are planning around that.

Edit:
And I'm okay with that, I think it's what we need. I think that they'll buy in to hard work and be an easy team to cheer for, even if they're losing. And hey, maybe they buy in and work hard enough that they win some games, which can be fun too.

Did you expect them to address the lack of elite talent at this deadline? If so - based on what?

No I didn't.
But I was hoping for a clearer path to those elite players.

Keeping markstrom and bringing in some NHL level players keeps us solidly where we have been.
We still have an okay group of players.

I dont see us dropping to a bottom 5 pick next year.
Were probably going to be in the 16th-22nd range of teams next year.

Yeah maybe.
Have a hard time seeing them being bott9m 5 but maybe they end up in the bottom 5-10.

Still looks like a 22nd-16th place team to me.

Trading Markstrom would change this though.

Kind of sad we couldn’t get a 6th rounder from Tre for Oesterle.

Well there's the off-season and I wouldn't be surprised if Markstrom is traded. The fact Vladar is still here would be evidence of that.
But that D - is NOT good. To me it's a bottom 10 team, and if Markstrom goes, all bets are off.
One step at a time. This is what all of us thought was the path - trade the UFAs, build the asset base back up. You don't re-build in one deadline.
Dare I say - it's a process.

I think this will be a bottom 5 team next season (with Markstrom gone) unless Conroy trades a lot of these picks for 'win now' players. From the little hints, it sure sounds like Calgary is more intent on drafting players than trading for them, with the last tidbit being that Conroy himself is off to go do some scouting.

I would actually expect Calgary to be sellers again next deadline, though obviously not to the extend that they were this season. Some players will be re-signed, some won't, and those will be traded.

Yeah fair enough. Need to wait and see how it all plays out before final judgement.

Marky trade in the off season would change alot.

Conroy just completed one the most significant in-season sell offs in NHL history.

Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, Chris Tanev, and Noah Hanifin all traded in one season with futures at the core of all of the trades.

What more do you expect them to do?

It sounds like we're still moving towards trading Markstrom in the Summer, and then we're right back at it with a few more pending UFAs to sell - and who knows what else.

I dunno... I mean... I think Rasmus, Weegar, and Kylington (assuming he resigns) are all legit Top4 d-men in my opinion. New Nikita, Pachel, and Hanley are (or look like in the case of New Nikita.) legit NHL depth defenders. So really the difference between it being good or not is whether Miromanov is any good. So to me it doesn't look like a bad D. Not yet anyways.
