Thumbs up Carl Sagan Cosmos series, the sequel!

Figured this deserved its own thread but amazing news for us space geeks, the sequel to simply the BEST space TV series ever is being brought to us by none other than:

Neil deGrasse Tyson (host)

Ann Druyan (Widow of Carl Sagan, co-creator of Cosmos.)

AND, the cool part the guy spearheading this Seth Mcfarlane a HUGE science nerd.

Quote:
More than three decades after it aired, Carl Sagan’s groundbreaking, brilliant 13-part TV series Cosmos:A Personal Voyage will finally get a sequel.
Cosmos, which originally ran in 1980 and was rerun many times over the following decade, is widely regarded as one of the first, and best, TV shows to make science accessible to everyone. You can watch the show now on Hulu, but despite its brilliance it is still a show from more than 30 years ago, and you can tell — the special effects are primitive by today’s standards, but more importantly some of the content has been superseded by discoveries in the intervening years.
So, it’s high time someone made a sequel to it, and now someone is! In partnership with Sagan’s colleagues Ann Druyan (who is also his widow) and Steven Soter, Seth MacFarlane — yes, that Seth MacFarlane — is going to produce a new 13-part series to serve as a sequel and modern update to Sagan’s masterpiece.

The opening tune of this series still haunts me, there is not a moment in my child hood which more excited my imagination than this TV series, I was hooked on science after the very first show. 500 Million people tuned into the original series, we can only hope the new one reaches half that.

Oh I should add Steven Soter, he's the guy who co-wrote Cosmos so he's a BIG part of the Cosmos legacy.

I think that maybe the most significant and intriguing part about this venture is that it will be broadcast on national network television in primetime. Even though it was picked up by FOX (NBC or CBS would have been better), this reboot will gather a much wider audience than if it were on Discovery or Science or one of the cable networks.

It's unfortunate this isn't a hotter topic.

Here's an excellent speech from Neil deGrasse Tyson on NASA and the future. Couldn't have said it better myself. I can't remember how many times I watched NASA TV in awe. It's sad to go from that to watching the program being dismantled and put on the backburner, and a nation (possibly the world) losing those dreams. In what way will we advance if we give up on space programs and the technology it brings us.

Looking forward to the rebirth of the Cosmos series.

Also the top video from Neil was in response to mullings that the US would not fund the James Webb telescope, which Neil was passionately upset about.

Here's a bit on that amazing bit of technology and what it might mean for our understanding of our universe.

Anyone catch the recent episode of StarTalk Radio yet?

Morgan Freeman was a guest, who apparently hosts a Space program called "Through the Wormhole" on the Science network in the states, no idea if it airs here in Canada.

Very good episode with a lot of good discussion as always. I'm just glad that horrible Lynn Coplitz isn't a co-host anymore. Can't stand that brutal voice of hers and her comments never help the flow of conversation.
