Email Client of Choice? (Outlook, Opera, Mozilla Thunderbird, Gmail)
So I have been a long time Microsoft Outlook user and am looking for other options that may be more intuitive.
One of my biggest gripes is the Task Manager in Outlook, it just does not work that great for me. I am planning on using Remember the Milk as a To-Do List organizer, so something that integrates with that would be fantastic.
That being said, I would love to get folk's feedback that uses one of the following to manage:
- Multiple email addresses
- Calendar
- Extensive To-Do Lists
Opinions on the following would be appreciated:
- Opera
- Thunderbird with Lightning
- Gmail
- Other options?

I used to be a big Outlook fan and I used to run Thunderbird with Lightning for a while.
But now I use Gmail, I have all my email addresses forwarded into one email box.
Works fine for me.

I have the same setup as photon. 3 email addresses (one telus, one gmail, one business gmail).
I find the gmail and telus are slow to arrive in the inbox of the other gmail account, which is a bit of a pain. Not sure if I can fix that with settings, but that's something to be aware of.

Really? How do you setup the other emails? The main gmail to pop/imap the other ones? or the other ones to forward to gmail?
Because most of the time if I update a ticket or do something that generates an email to one of my non-gmail accounts it's in my inbox literally before I can switch back to my gmail window.
Except Shaw, that's always slow.

I use Outlook 2010. But I'm a Microsoft nerd.

Gmail
The best.
Regarding Gmail from exchange servers. If you set it up as a POP3 connection then the emails aren't pushed instantly. If your email server supports IMAP then they should go through pretty soon after being sent by another person.

Why did you switch from Thunderbird with Lightning over to Gmail?

Just the hassle with having to deal with a client, having my read status not be the same everywhere (though that can be solved with IMAP instead of POP), not having to move files when I rebuild my computer, had a few version issues and bugs with things, accessibility anywhere without having to worry about files.. Spam filtering.. probably some others I can't think of.

The labelling system takes some getting used to in Gmail, but once you're used to it, it really is superior to any sort of folder system. I've used gmail with multiple email addresses (3, my wife uses about 5) and it's really efficient for that.
The task list within gmail isn't very good - extremely basic - but I have no idea how that would change if you're using the Remember the Milk addons. It looks like it would be a drastic improvement over the regular gmail task lists.
edit: I may actually try that out for myself, as I've been frustrated with the gmail task lists lately.
edit: yup, Remember the Milk adds a lot of functionality that the Gmail task list doesn't have. works very well together! I think I'm going to switch over to it.

I use Opera for my e-mail client but that is only because Opera is my browser of choice at all times and it is easier to have convergence in one place for me.
If you do not use Opera as a browser, I would not use it as a standalone e-mail client.

I use gmail at home and outlook at work, but for anyone who needs a free client I tell them to use Windows Live Essentials Mail.

I took a look at Opera...can it be used Offline as an email client? Is it worthwhile to use as a browser?
