For the record the Athletic's grades are pretty well in line with Barnwell. I'm in agreement with most of these low grades as free agency is generally a terrible way to build a team but GM's and coaches with jobs on the line are so desperate that it only takes a few teams to drive up the price for what's in a lot of cases pretty average players. I can't think of many contracts handed out this week that were really good contracts for the team. The good deals usually come the following week when teams get decent Tier 2 UFA's on more reasonable deals. The players are the only winners this time of year for the most part.

I figured this was coming with the signing of the Honey Badger, plus some of the other guys that were released.
Berry was an awesome player and a better person/leader. Unfortunately it does seem that that injury and the subsequent issues have really limited what he can do on the field.
He could still be useful for someone else, but at the contract he had, there was no chance for him to provide value.
Football, like the game, hate the business.

Likely asked to restructure after 1 year and after the second, refuse to restructure.

I'm kind of surprised any team would give him that much guaranteed money given he's averaging only 9 games played a season over the past three seasons. There have been a lot of questionable contracts this week but this one has to be the biggest leap of faith. Great player when healthy but......

And all NFL players should have this attitude.
Teams are ruthless, and your career is too short to take any type of pay cut or home town discount in the NFL IMO.

Agreed.
Always take the money if it's available. Not only are you always one hit away from it being your last play of your career, but you become more replaceable with each draft class.

Overwhelming consensus: "The Giants are rebuilding after letting Collins walk and trading Odell"

Raiders released jordy nelson today, makes sense, I can see a wr pick with the late 1st or 2nd round pick if someone like brown or harry is dropping, would prefer fant at TE though
Wonder if jordy goes back to green bay, everyone is saying patriots but.... we know why that is

Depending on the draft cost, I like this for Tennessee. Mariota is glass so this sets a much higher floor for your backup than the Blaine Train.

Someone re-explain why the Eagles had to just release Foles? (rather than trading him)

He wasn’t under contract
So they would have had to franchise him , etc
They will get a 3rd round pick anyways for him leaving
They may have been able to do slightly better , but after what he contributed to them I think part of it was allowing him to go get a big contract and choose his team

Plus on the off chance that they couldn’t work out a trade they would have destroyed their salary cap being stuck with a franchised Foles. Cant always squeeze every last drop of value out of a player so let him walk, so long and thanks for all the fish etc.

Tyreek Hill being investigated for battery on a minor (his son) Chiefs risky drafting catching up to them, precedent was set with Hunt wonder if they follow suit

Investigation is pretty much done according to TMZ and of course they bury the actual lede that he's not a suspect here. He definitely doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt, but it sounds like TMZ is overblowing this. TMZ are Browns fans it seems because we all know he's in Cleveland within 4 seconds of getting released. On the other hand the Chiefs also gotta be kinda happy because this simple brush with trouble probably brings his contract down a few million.
