On the FAN boomer joked about trading Gaudreau and Conroy said “we are gonna get that done” (as in signing him)

"That's a done deal. We'll get that done"
Yikes .. have to wonder if Treliving and Gaudreau's agent are happy with that given the won't talk about it mantra.
Conroy is either the team's number one weapon or he's constantly ticking them off. Could be either one!

I have fail to see how that quote is "yikes" worthy. It's a positive throwaway comment, that's it.

When both sides agreed not to discuss it in the media until the season is over it's a bit of a yikes for me if the team basically calls it a given it's done.
As I said though he could be a tool for the team or loose lips.
I'd lean to the latter.
Would make me hesitate in making him the GM. Love the guy, and he's great for sports radio, but if the team said no comment you wonder about his filter.

He's never had a filter. It's why he's always been a great interview. Maybe as a GM he could curb it but it would definitely be a cause for concern for any team considering hiring him as GM.
My take from his comment is that the Flames want to keep him and will try but it's kind of out of their control now unless they blow the doors off him with an 8 year deal or something and I'm not sure if that's ideal long term.

I don't think the comment is a big deal. I think "not discussing contract" is more about talking specifics like dollar amount and term. I doubt it means anything about the intent to sign him. If anything, I think it would be more offensive to Gaudreau and his agent if the Flames acted indifferent.

Gaudreau's getting an eight year deal and that's a good thing for the Flames. Allows them to bring down the average cost of the contract.

Or maybe it really is a done deal and the agent and Johnny are OK with the comment. One can certainly hope that is the case

I'm going to side with "yikes". If you're in the middle of negotiating ~$80MM, you'd rather not have a team member declare victory before pen hits page.
Happy to hear it though.

I can picture Conroy sitting in the corner of Brad's office facing the wall after getting a scolding.

Two scenarios:
1) Gaudreau wants to re-sign here, and this comment is simply stating facts
2) Gaudreau does not want to re-sign here, and this comment is irrelevant

Is it that much different than BT saying that we will move heaven and earth to get these 2 signed?
