It wouldn't surprise me if Obama announces his opposition to the pipeline while the Pope is in town talking up climate change.

Hilary's new opposition of Keystone (after supporting it for 8 years) is so serious and well thought out that she decided to flippantly joke about it on SNL, because the environment and climate change is like a serious issue she is totally focused on and stuff.

Except that her country is one of the biggest exporters of coal to third world nations, they've built enough pipeline since Obama gained office to circle the globe twice, and California's Oil extraction makes the Oil Sands look like a rose garden.
She's as big of a hypocrite as Obama is on this file.
Like I said before, the Americans are not our friends anymore.

Americans are still our friends. Media is a fickle thing, and just so happened to have picked up on the pipeline narrative at the wrong time for the Keystone XL.

With the way that the American's have treated Canada with Keystone, with the appointment of the new ambassador and a few other things, its not friendship right now, the American's are pretty much being bullies.
They are pretty much taking it for granted that we're going to eat their poop sandwiches with a smile.

Do you mind elaborating? I was under the impression that California's oil industry is minute and comparatively benign to ours.

California doesn't produce as much oil as Alberta but the carbon intensity for their oil is higher than the oil sands. Having Obama and other US politicians constantly throwing dirt at the oil sands yet ignoring California entirely is a joke. A quick search on California oil production brought up this article http://beaconenergynews.ca/markham/c...l-sands-crude/
From the article:
Quote:
California crudes - Carbon Intensity - Volumes (bbls in 2012 and 2013)
Arroyo Grande - 27.81 - 727,414
Coalinga - 25.36 - 11,068,127
Kern Front - 25.06 - 6,770,131
Placerita - 31.66 - 1,896,781
Canadian crudes - Carbon Intensity - Volumes (bbls in 2012 and 2013)
Suncor Synthetic - 24.49 - 7,824,657
Albian Heavy Synthetic - 21.02 - 7,666,165
Cold Lake - 18.74 - 11,312,831

Screw 'em! We'll build our own pipeline! With hookers and blackjack!

It's legit.

The US really didn't have any real reason to deny it other than "international perception". I wonder how well that argument would hold up, even in a biased NAFTA court.

Good for TCPL, they have nothing to lose.

It's an arbitration. 3 arbitrators chosen by the parties. TCPL has hired a D.C. firm to handle their side.
Sounds like they have a pretty strong case, but NAFTA arbitrators do not have to rely on past decisions so who knows.
The US has never lost a NAFTA decision.

As stated before in this thread, the rejection of Keystone XL on environmental grounds is a stretch.
I wonder if the Hollywood tree-huggers enjoy choking on methane gas?
Quote:
Gas is spewing into the atmosphere at a rate so fast that the well now accounts for about a quarter of the state's total emissions of methane - an extremely potent greenhouse gas.
