I was wondering which washed up guy they were going to sign, but this is much more fun.

The last time Sutter came aboard, the team traded a 2nd rounder for a plucky young lad named Mikka Kiprusoff. History repeating?

Boston signs Troy Grosenick for goaltending depth.

Shrewd move. I wonder if other teams even knew this guy was available. Can see him doing as well as the other backups that were signed for 2M+

I think Louis Domingue or someone similar on a training camp PTO would be good insurance

OK, I have no problem with them using a young high upside goalie for the back up, hopefully he works out.

Hopefully he's not Garrett Sparks v2.0 though. He was big, young and AHL dominant at one point too.

We certainly could have done that, because goalies are robots with no minds of their own. The fact that Rittich thinks he's a starter and wanted out of Calgary after the Markstrom signing cannot possibly affect his actions.

There's also the interesting wrinkle that Vladar will be 24 this season, whereas it's a bit late in the day to sign a 24-year-old Rittich.

Same reason they traded him. He showed little interest playing behind Markstrom.

Ritter might play 30-35 games behind Soros, or 10-15 behind Markstrom
Perhaps he didn't want to come here

I tend to like any goalie who puts up 92%+ at any level.
Daniel Vladar has done this several times, so I like him.

In 2019-2020 he put up 93.6% in 25 AHL games.
If the Heat can get numbers even remotely close to that, they'll make the playoffs for the first time in a long time.

I'm not too concerned about the NHL number he has put up so far. It'll be interesting to see where he plays most of his games.

George Soros is 90, so Rittich may get even more games than that.

I sure hope Markstrom is not playing +70 games next year. Cam Talbot is the only goalie to play so many games in the last six seasons.

He is old enough they can’t possibly mess him up, can they?

Treliving is bleeding picks again. We had that discussion a couple days early. Wonder if Bingo’d pull out some stats to correct me again

LOL - he used a 3rd round pick for a developed 23 year old goalie drafted in the 3rd round.

He used an extra pick obtained for renting 28 year old Rittich (who wasn’t going to be here anyway) for a 26 year old Dman.

Oh noes.

If Markstrom had the same season as last year, we are toasted no matter who is the backup

If that happens , turn to Vladar and go for Wright assuming Treliving still has the pick

The debate is not whether they are good trades, it’s how Treliving treat the draft picks

Treliving’s philosophy is to spend draft picks on plugs to fill the lineup. That potentially damages the system in the long run. It’s acceptable if the team was winning but they have not. So here we are.
