Conservatives actually love socialism, as long as it's corporate. Otherwise, it's the worst thing ever.

Even non-corporate, because the more the government gives to the people, the more companies can withhold. If the government is giving rebates for WFH equipment and office setup, that’s one less thing the company has to provide.

Both parties will be one upping each other to get our votes. May see a new arena because of it.

Kinda feels good.

It's what Alberta conservatives get wrong about Quebec. They don't get all these handouts because they threaten to separate. They get handouts because they're always selling their votes.

Calgary voters have also gladly and enthusiastically ceded as much decision making power as possible to provincial governments that actively work against the city's best interests, which is unique among the big cities in Canada. Calgary gets ignored for federal money because of blindly loyal voting patters, and gets underfunded provincially because of blindly loyal voting patterns.

The biggest federal funding announcement came ahead of an election where the Liberals won two seats and were looking to be competitive in a couple others. As soon as the blue fortress looked vulnerable the infrastructure dollars came pouring in from both the Conservatives and the Liberals. Who woulda thought.

I have been trying to beat this drum hard for a few years now and people just don't get it, Alberta could slap every political party upside the head by swinging our votes away from team blue. That disruption if maintained over 2 election cycles would vastly change how Alberta is treated.

I guess ideology prevails to too many Albertans.

I’d call it brand identity rather than ideology.

I don't think I've ever voted for the same party twice in AB. Between how much the parties themselves change and how you change as an individual, how do people just blindly vote for the same party over and over?

I get that it's mostly people that don't follow politics but still, it's just mind bottling to me

People treat political parties like sports teams.

The scary part is most people don't follow politics or even know the issues at hand. That has me extremely worried that Smith might win.

The Cons will have a massive budget surplus due to oil prices and will ensure they commit enough to buy the one the fence votes in the upcoming budget

NDP really need the economy to crash

Doubt it'd matter, economy goes downhill they'll blame the Feds, and people will lap it up

I wish we would budget based on $50 WTI and all other oil revenues need to go into debt reduction / savings.

I’ll counter with, people saw an incredibly lucrative opportunity to capitalize on those tendencies and it’s the entire political playbook now.

I'd be happy if they just went back to the original intent of 30% of non-renewable revenue going to the Heritage fund.

I wish we’d budget no royalty revenue for operations and they all go to capital and savings/debt reduction.
