It actually made me really angry I was talking to my nephew and he had watched Animal House for the first time and he literally complained about me recommending it because it was full of sexism.
Its like one of my favorite movies was blazing Saddles, which was brilliant and hilarious. But I can imagine what this generation would think about it.
Blazing Saddles still totally holds up. Animal House is kinda hard to watch now, to be honest.

In my experience, younger generations seem to embrace films like Blazing Saddles and series like All in the Family because they aren't exploitative (like the sex romp comedies of the 70s and 80s). The message was embedded in the satire, and the bigots were the butt of the joke.
It's pretty incredible how far ahead of their time these shows were.
I honestly think that the concept of Satire is lost on a lot of people. I think that a lot of people go to movies, thinking that the film maker is playing it straight.

Considering how weird the world's gotten in the past few years, I think satire is redundant - you can't write any of this ****.
...and Blazing Saddles is the funniest movie ever.

Blazing Saddles still works in our current comedy climate because it's a) intensely funny, and b) is a great example that the best comedy punches up, not down. None of the jokes are offensive within the context of the movie because the butt is always those holding power.

I've tried to watch those movies like three times each. I don't get them. Maybe too much TV growing up ruined my attention span, but I find them quite boring and unfunny. They're too all over the place, yet the scenes seem to drag on. Never actually laughed at any part in them.
So, I like Ed Norton. I was pretty excited that a Norton directed and acted movie was coming in Motherless Brooklyn, but I was severely disappointed. Predictable and forced is the best way I can describe it. Hate saying it. Not a good movie.
On the flip side, I caught Grosse Pointe Blank yesterday. One of my favorite films of all time. So quotable. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

Saw Jojo Rabbit this weekend and I can't say enough good things about it. It is ridiculously funny and incredibly heart wrenching. My favourite movie of the year.

Man Up - Simon Pegg in a romantic comedy. It’s on Netflix. I liked it. Nothing groundbreaking but funny and heartfelt.
On the Basis of Sex - story of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. This one was very paint by numbers. Not awful though.
Cafe Society - god I hate Woody Allen the person but he makes decent romantic comedies. This one felt like clone of LaLaLand without the singing. It was unsatisfying but not bad.
Chinatown - Another movie directed by a creepy pedophile but what a classic. I love watching famous movies that I’ve never seen before. Jack Nicholson is excellent.
