Changes to the parking situation in place for Wednesday night's game. Spoilered for size.

They did exactly what I said they should: Open a lot on the east side to split traffic, and reserve a lot for pass holders. That should make a significant difference.

Hey Sherm - next time you talk to the club, one suggestion I would make would be to default the website's schedule page to show all competitions. As it stands now, the Canadian Championship games are effectively invisible. Especially to any potential fan not familiar with soccer's habit of running multiple concurrent competitions.

Hey Guys,
My hockey schedule just changed, and my buddy is also unable to attend Wednesday's game. I'm willing to give them for free to someone on here who didn't have a chance to go to Saturday's game. Please only message me if you can 100% make it, and I will transfer them to you.
Cheers

So as per that map, if heading West on Stoney, are we supposed to enter at the 2nd entrance (tournament lane), or can we do the first entrance (Spruce Meadows Way) across from James Mckevit?

Looks to me like they'll let you in at the first entry and then have you cross through Spruce Meadows to the other side to park (for non-pass holders). If you wanted to come in at Tournament Lane you had to go down to 37th Street, make a u-turn and head east on 22x to do that, which was a bit annoying on Saturday.

Sounds like the league is cracking down on smoke bombs pretty hard. The club just told me it's potentially a one year ban for anyone who gets caught sneaking them in. Of course, they'll promote it on club websites. I don't think smoke bombs are the hill to die on myself, but the hypocrisy behind the league promoting smoke in the stands, while simultaneously punishing those who use it, is ridiculous.

That sucks; I like the smoke bombs. I wish they were allowed, they add greatly to the soccer atmosphere. It was like the icing on the cake at the last Cavalry game.
In my opinion, the key would be to let responsible, pre-approved ticket holders set them off is pre-approved areas. An outright ban is overkill, IMO.

They just need to monetize smoke bombs. Parking, polish sausage, and a smoke bomb. Ten bucks, ten bucks, ten bucks. Done and done.
In all seriousness, and excuse my ignorance having never smoke bombed before... are these a type of combustible thing? Or is there a different type of reaction to create the smoke?
I'm personally OK with combustibles not being allowed in the stands for obvious reasons. But if these are not, then I think that pre-approved sections would be fun. Given the typical wind direction and the presence of the Foot Soldiers already, the south stand would be prefect. Sit there and you know what you're getting. Obviously the league itself seems steadfastly against them, so good luck with that.

I thought the smoke really added atmosphere and fun. Too bad.

My brother-in-law actually joked that the match needed some flares or smoke bombs about 5 minutes before that goal went in. Wish = granted. Even if it was very fleeting and may never happen again.

You can almost guarantee this will be the lowest attended game of the year for Calgary. Conceivably for the entire league too, depending on Victoria and York's season ticket base.

I still don't understand how a new pro club could get the original launch so bad. I never would have thought the first game day experience of Cavalary was possible in 2019.

Literally everyone I have talked to thought the first game experience was great though. Yes, the parking was a concern for a lot, and there were some teething problems. But still, everyone seemed to enjoy it and feedback here was largely positive.

Has there been all that much marketing? Honestly, the only way I know about this even happening is through Calgarypuck and 960. I know a lot of true soccer fans who didn't even know about this, till I mentioned it to them.
