As the resident Oiler fan, I think Talbot will be your number 1 this year. He’s got it in him and he’s due for a rebound. I think he’s your best move this off season

I'd love to reciprocate this with some good thoughts about Smith, but sorry, I think you're boned.

My hot take:

John Gibson is the best goalie in the world.

My bold predictions:

-The Flames have more injuries than any season since the Brent Sutter era.
-Minnesota finishes last in the west
-Flames goaltending is the best since Kipper

Very bold:
-Phil Kessel scores 60 goals

- Majority of RFAs will sign for small bridge deals. 2 years for Chucky at around 7.

- Lucic will be a fan favourite and will score less than 10 goals.

- #13 white heritage jersey will be one of the best selling jerseys in the league. (Top three)

- Frolik is traded by October.

- Key injuries will effect the team early on.

- Monahan will be in a fight.

- Flames fall in standings. Struggle early on due to injuries. Claim wildcard spot and win two playoff rounds. 7 points separating us from top team in the west.

- Flames are in on Hall but loose out to him going to Arizona.

- We make a trade with CBJ. Josh Anderson is involved.

- Worst team will be the Wild and the best team in the league will be Tampa.

- Yotes will be a top team in the West.

- Flyers win the cup.

- Anaheim wins the Lafreniere lottery.

- Holtby sings with the Flames as a UFA next summer.

- Retros are full-time jerseys starting next year.

I think it's more likely Lepin would sponsor them. After all, they always rebuild with crappy pieces.

- Noah Hanfin will arguably be the Flames best dman
- Rasmus Anderson will get a crack with gio but have a disappointing start and a disappointing season overall
- Bennett will get 50 points
- Lucic will get 40 points
- Jankowski and Brodie will get traded for right handed depth and a pick. The trade on paper will look terrible.
- Neither Rittich or Talbot will solidify themselves ahead of the other both will be good
- Lindholm Backlund and Tkachuk will be our best line
- Gio won't get 50 points

He was the best player on the Flames roster in the playoffs.

Tkachuk isn't signed when the year starts but the team dominates and does great without him. He ends up being traded to the sens for a HUGE return of young players, prospects and picks.

We, the Wildcard #2, will upset top seeded, stronger Colorado team (Doonskoi and Kadri eh?) in the upcoming Spring.

- Hanifin will be surpassed by the pair of Kylington and Valimaki
- Lindholm will regress next season offensively to more of a 55-60 pt guy
- Bennett should be developed as a center, ideally eventually flanked by Tkachuk and Lindholm in a Backlund type role
- Mangiapane is a potential 1st line talent
- The Flames still miss both Paul Byron and Micheal Ferland
- Backlund is the Flames' best center and would produce very well in Monahan's role (PP / 3v3 / 5v5 / 4v4 etc)
- Hamonic is inferior to Brodie and may soon be surpassed by Andersson too
- Jankowski should be shifted to the wing and tried higher up the lineup

Thanks for the reminder. It took him like 3.5 months to get up to speed, and the Oilers aren't going to make the playoffs, so what's your point?

That would make me very happy. He's one of my favourite players around the league. Funny cause I only ever noticed him last year! Living overseas can make it hard to follow hockey.

Surprisingly or not, I disagree with every single one of your predictions.

Flames finish 3rd in conference win first round. Lose to SJ in round 2.
Oilers make playoffs in wildcard slot
Jankowski gets traded. Return is fair but CP implodes.
San Jose wins the cup.
Heavy Jack continues his wild trade proposals, none even come close to materializing
Talbot wins starter job and has a stellar year.

- Andersson is the Flames points leader on d
- Dube pots 20 goals
- Lucic pots 6 goals
- Jankowski is traded for spare parts
- Monahan sucks in the playoffs (again), people relentlessly defend him (again)
- Talbot and Rittich are a top 5 tandem

* Flames trade for Josh Anderson (please)

Smith played his best when he had no defence in front of him. Since Edmonton has no defence to speak of......
