I have low standards and like basically anyone related to hockey who actually has personality.

So I like Don Cherry, largely because he's so different from the others.

Rogers being scum and Don Cherry needing to retire 15 years ago are not mutually exclusive.

Which is exactly what the network is trying to avoid. Having droves of existing viewers switching channels because Old man Cherry has a few things to say on air is a bad thing for ratings

The man is 85 years old, people. He’s had a long, fulfilling Career in hockey and Television. There are no other networks who employ a man of this age on live TV

He still has huge ratings though. So this narrative of "droves" switching channels is simply untrue.

If he didn't bring the eyeballs he does, he would have been toast long ago. That's how the business works.

Not sure how his age has anything to do with it....if he can keep viewers locked on for the commercials, he can be 115 for all they care.

This looks more like a cost-cutting measure like they have been doing since year 2 of the deal they signed that they are having trouble showing profit on.

I think he was.

But I haven’t thought that in a while.

In my view, it is time for a change. However, he has been an institution for a long time and I would like for him to bow out in an agreed way and with dignity.

He deserves that.

I feel like the "bunch of jerks" stuff was the most relevant Don Cherry has been in years. Seems like the timing of releasing him now is odd.

Nice. Some of the best memories I have of my dad are watching Hockey Night in Canada and Coach’s Corner. It was only segment outside the game I really enjoyed as a kid. Always had a thing for a flamboyant suit. My dad’s gift, every birthday, was whatever the latest Rock Em Sock Em video was, and he and I would always watch it together. For reasons that are none of your business, holding on to really good memories like that is more important to me than ever.

So, in the words of Don Cherry, “keep your mouth shut.”

If you have to take personal shots over a Don Cherry opinion, you’ve got growing to do. Don Cherry is a legend, but his time is past due. And that’s from someone who has some really important memories tied to him.

Does he? Do they track ratings on 4-5 minute intermission segments? I've never seen ratings for Coach's Corner.

Anyway, this development doesn't affect me much either way.

Way, way past due. They should be firing him....into the Sun.

He hasnt had an insightful take on modern hockey in 30 years and his opinions on Foreign players are downright embarrassing.

He should have been put out to pasture a long time ago.

Give him a farewell and a deserved sendoff because hes been a Canadian Hockey Institution during his lifetime and love him or hate him, hes earned that. But as with all things, the game moves forward and hes been an anchor holding it back for years.

I dont hate him, but its been long since time for him to go.

Huge fan of Cherry but I wished they gave us smaller doses. Like every second Saturday or something.

At least he has aged better than Maclean.

This is where they should have sent Ron and Don years ago. Pack all of the Canadiana and Nostalgia into one place.

I’m not really a fan of Burke’s work on TV. I like Cherry in small doses personally and have never minded Maclean but sounds like I’m in the minority. And I also don’t watch the HNIC feed that often so maybe that is why.

The first step is cancelling Ron Maclean.
