Default Flames recall Gawdin. Ryan on IR

https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flam...on/c-315181686

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames have recalled Glenn Gawdin from AHL Stockton. 42 points in 46 games, good chance he debuts today.

Derek Ryan (illness) to IR, retroactive to February 13th. Eligible to return Friday vs. Boston. Sounds like he’s quite sick. Backlund also questionable today vs. Anaheim.

Ward made mention of this yesterday. With both Backlund and Ryan unavailable, Flames need a body for the PK.

IR simply for the cap savings for a week

IR provides no cap savings/relief. it only allows the team to exceed the 23 man roster limit. IR is a minimum of 7 days.

LTIR is what provides cap relief but it is not bankable. LTIR is a minimum of 21 days.

Logical move being a two way player is needed.

Still wonder when Czarnik gets another shot. He deserves it from an offensive pov.

Gawdin should become the first Flame to ever wear the number 80, unless he's changed numbers after his stint in Stockton this year.

He'd be just the 15th player in history to wear the number.

EDIT: Looks like Gawdin shifted to 42 this year. That's Brett Sutter and Micki DuPont's old number.

However, Gawdin has worn 21 in Stockton, a number that was vacated with Garnet Hathaway's departure and which has not been adorned in Calgary since.

Yay Gawdin!

Oh Noes Ryan!

I am pretty high on Gawdin, seems to think the game well and has a decent toolbox, as well as showing some intangibles (good motor, grit). Really hope he can make it in the big show.

Don't think Czarnik will get another shot unless Gaudreau, Dube or Mangiapane get injured. Dube and Mangiapane outperformed him and stole his spot and he ain't getting it back until injury hits. There's only so many small forwards you can ice. Czarnik is small, soft and hasn't proven to be an NHL scorer. He's a tweener. Not sure why people are hyped on him. He'd need a top two line opportunity but he isn't a better option than anybody there.

There’s only one 42 on the Flames. And Peplinski should’ve given up 24.
