DC has made some good movies. The Batman movies were good, really good, maybe even great. But let's not pretend they they've put out more amazing stuff than crap. One of the main reasons I resent DC so much is that they didn't keep the ball rolling when the Batman movies were around. They've butchered Superman IMO and just keep trying again and again. I think I prefer DC lego movies more than their actual stuff. I do enjoy the TV shows to an extent but the DCCU is crap and it could have been so much more.

I like DC comics and characters but what they've done with them on the big screen for the most part has been a big swing and a miss compared to what they could have done. They should be at least on par with Marvel and they're nowhere close.

Agreed, I loved the first Michael Keaton Batman, and even the second one was ok, after that it just slid down hill.

The Bale movies were good, though the last one was really pretty weak.

the first Chris Reeve's movie was good and the second one was better. Then it lost its way. Superman returns was just boring. I liked the Cavill movie. Wonder Woman was ok, but on repeated viewings you start to see flaws.

Batman vs Superman and Justice League were utter garbage. Suicide Squad still hurts because it had so much potential.

Its a mixed bag.

On TV I thought Gotham was very good, the first few episodes of Pennyworth have been good, the first episode of Batwoman was flat and uninteresting but it might be just because its the first episode.

They need to treat these characters like Bond. We don't get a new Bond origin story every 3 movies. They change actors, and the character changes occasionally, but they just pretend nothing has changed.

My problem with Marvel is that they always stay within the safe limits of their previous success. Most Marvel movies are just average to good. They will never produce a Joker, Logan, Dark Knight, or even a V for Vendetta.

Part of creating great movies is taking chances with a Zack Snyder...no they don't always work out, but when they do they can be great.

It's also not fair to compare comic book movies made in the 1980s/90s to today...unless you want to dig into the Marvel movies from that era, which no one ever should.

I don't hate Marvel, and quite enjoy many of their movies. When they make a derivative piece of crap, they deserved to be called out. After Avengers 2, there was a lot of backlash at how mediocre that was. They responded well to this and upped their game with Guardians of the Galaxy. Then the fanboy community really started to get out of hand, endlessly praising everything they did. This is why "End Game" was not as good as "Infinity War". Captain Marvel and Antman 2 came out, which were both relatively bland and the studio caved to detractors who said Infinity War was too dark. The study, in turn, really dialed things down between IW and EG.

Fans have a role to call out all the studios for the their less than satisfactory crap. Blind faith in any one product only leads to mediocrity.

I agree with everything you just said and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Honestly this was so well said, and I feel like no matter what DC puts out people automatically crap on it and no matter what MCU does it gets praised.
This isn't sports, you can enjoy both, in fact it's much better for the genre if we have two healthy competitors. Look at what happened to pro-wrestling once WCW folded.
MCU has become such a huge brand that people aren't even Marvel fans they are MCU fans, that's why so many people were happy that Fox got sold to Disney and didn't want Sony making a Spider-Man film. I like MCU alot, but they make a very specific film and 9/10 times I enjoy it but I don't want only style of superhero film.
4 out of the last 5 DC films have been a success with critics, audiences and a huge hit at the box office. You didn't like BvS that's okay Snyder is no longer involved with the DCEU.

Going with Snyder in the first place was always going to be a weird call. He's sort of a slightly better Micheal Bay, and everyone kind of knew that going in. I assume that it was because WB thought that he would be controllable, which led to even more of a mess.

If they were going to hitch their wagon to an auteur, honestly they should have aimed a bit higher.

They can still right the ship, by putting someone in charge with a strong overall vision, but you're not going to get a David Fincher or Grant Morrison at this point, because they've poisoned the well.

I wonder what the DCEU is going to end up as.

A boom in indy wrestling talent getting more exposure and eventually becoming big time audience drawing promotions? That forced the entrenched company to sit up and take notice.

This isn't sports, but it's also not just one sport. Marvel vs DC has been done to death, and so much good comic content is being put out year after year, and being adapted to movies and TV shows year after year. Looking at comic book movies as this superhero universe vs that superhero universe and this media conglomerate vs that media conglomerate ignores the vast majority of great storytelling out there that is comic related with nothing to do with superheroes.

I am glad that the smog (smug?) is starting to dissipate on the interwebs in regards to Marvel movies.

What they did with the Infinity Saga is legendary and deserves great praise. Bringing it all together, arcing it, well done. But some of the individual pieces were crap, some were OK, some were great.

I'd love to see Marvel branch out far to one side, now that they have all this success and have proven, yes they can do it.. take some risks.

I thought the end of IW was awesome, had a very Empire Strikes Back feel to it, but then agreed that they pulled some punches in End Game. They basically totally forgot the tone that was set in IW.

So...its basically a more realistic version of 'America's Got Talent' now?

People can just vote their least favourite characters off the show.

It's DC so it's more of a choose your own adventure where they pick one path and then it really sucks but they say that they still had their finger on the page and will just try to change the story as if nothing happened.

I've never seen her in anything but she certainly has that Catwoman energy so I'm super excited. This movie is going to be insane, I hope it's good.

You've seen her in X-Men: First Class as "Angel". You've probably seen her in the Fantastic Beasts movies too.
